Good enough for pick 26?

Not as far as I am concerned. Why clubs would invest senior list spots on talent that hasn't followed the AFL pathway especially with early selections defies logic.

Even as impressed as I was with Waylen, I think 26 is too big a risk. I think somebody will give him a crack with a pick past about 50.

It will be interesting when and which club pulls the trigger when it comes to selecting him. It will be a test of nerves I reckon. Everyone will be wanting to get him as late as possible but will one club take the risk and pick him earlier?

Probably Melbourne or Port id reckon.

Carlton are the ones I fancy, they desperately need a tall KPF and at pick 44 you'd think he would be worth a punt.

Seems a reasonable possibility bullus, they also have a fair core of indigenous players at Carlscum to help make any transition a bit easier. Pick 44 in a shallow / compromised draft wouldn't seem much of a reach either. Having made finals the last few years you'd also think they might just try and pick to fill a couple of specific needs.

This kid will be drafted early by GWS.

Has too much potential to slide past all the picks they have. With so many early picks they can take a chance.

And with the interest he is generating, he looks like a much cheaper version of signing Folau.

That would be a ballsy move, even at pick 14 that would be a reach, if it does eventuate it will be a bonus for the RFC.

I don't think it will be ballsy at all. Thay have so many low picks that they can afford a pure X-factor (high risk high reward) pick early on.

They still have to fill the meat and potatoes positions and will probably need to grab 2 rucks. The eagerness with which GWS gobbled up early picks indicated they won't be reaching too far when it comes to speculative players. I may be wrong but I reckon they won't be taking too many risks when draft time arrives, I think it will be a similar story to what happened with GC.

True Bullus, but for me a number of things come into play here:

1. Sheedy loves these type of players
2. The guy would be a marketers dream, and that should not been an underestimated motivation for GWS
3. GWS will be very uncompetitive next year. I don't think reaching for Manson will hurt them that much.
4. They need tall players, and there is not that many available

That said, I would also be suprised if they let Taylor Adams go past to us as well.

Waratahs defeated the powerhouse club of the NTFL - St.Marys - this arvo by 22 points. Waylen played on one of the comps strongest defenders in Anstess. It was a good contest early but then Waylen got away from him. Finished with a lazy 6 goals.

Can you give us a description of how he plays/gets his goals Hop?

He's got that combination of height and athleticism that players like Franklin use to get goals in multiple ways. (No, I'm not saying he's as good as Buddy).

He marks well and has a real skill for being at the drop of a ball - even in pack marking situations. He has very long arms and does seem to regularly mark ahead of the spoil. But he also has real speed and can get away from opponents on the burst to kick a running goal, including the odd sneak off the back of the pack for a "cherrypicker" goal on his own in the square.

Plays in bursts too, which os proabably typical of a kids from the bush who is so raw but has such freakish tools. He kicked four in the 3rd quarter yesterday and broke the game open.

One thing I'm certain of is that this kid will be drafted. Just a matter of who pulls the trigger ... and when.

Thanks Hop. Its refreshing to have a young prospect who doesnt exist on youtube (as far as i can tell). One crystal ball draft I read had him going at 10-rookie. Thats a pretty big spread. Dons fans want to take him at 19! Carlton might stretch for him, sheeds would have to be tempted???. I really dont care who gets him, i just hope he makes it in the big smoke and i get to see him play.

How was the discipline Hopper, did he do the team things or was it a case of taking potshots whenever he got a sniff?

Yeah I had a look for that, bh. I think it's something that's been said to him because I did see a bit more defensive pressure and chasing. But I'd be lying if I said he wasn't still playing for offense first.

One of my managers at work is one of the statistitians for the Tahs. He said he is such a nice young guy and definately isn't one who gets too far ahead of himself, which will hold him in good stead when he gets drafted. He's a quiet type who doesn't seek any attention or favours. Reckons he constantly thanks everyone around him for the opportunities he's receiving, and is very popular around the club, which he's not quiet used to yet.

And Hopper, yes, his arms are orangutan like! Very good reach on the young lad.

Just a little Waylen update. Tahs defeated the rabble that is the Darwin Buffaloes by 146pts this arvo. Waylen was completely outshone by Beau Runnals who managed 11 goals. Waylen managed a casual 8 goals. Tahs to be strengthened next week for the match against Palmerston by a couple of PRE old favourites in Fevola & Pettifer!
