How were the Chisels? Did Jimmy produce more scream than that 'jerk' BreadLoaf?
Truly outstanding - after Sunday night I wanted Waylen and Jimmy drafted. Jimmy just as insurance! ;)

Might be worth a rookie pick.

Wonder if he is on the radar of any other clubs??

In a weak draft, this kid will go much earlier than that.

I suspect he could even go somewhere in the first round given all the picks GWS have.

Has anyone seen some highlights of him? Is he worth the punt? If people have said that he might not adapt to city life, what would the club have to do differently? We dont want another Troy Taylor situation.

IMO the ones that seem to succeed are the ones playing in the seniors. Troy went home the second time because he didnt want to play for Coburg. Problem is he didnt work as hard as the others so it wouldnt set a good example.

Afetr the recent debacles with Gilligan, Petersen, Taylor and Relton i cant see it.

Most white guys fail too its just when they do it is normally put down to them not being talented enough. When the indigineous guys fail it is normally put down to a character flaw.

Perhaps clubs just need to be more flexible in their thinking and accept that a guy like his lad might play 18 games a year and have 5 weeks home. Abandon the one size fits all approach and focus on the 18 weeks he is there not the 5 he isn't?

If we are going to Gamble on someone id rather do it with Sandilands brother.

Whats the reasoning about gambling on Sandilands? Is it just his height?

What if the 5 weeks at home were all in September?

I'm suggesting that you could schedule breaks at round 4, round 10, round 16 etc so that he can get home for 5-6 days at a time. That might be a way you can keep a talented kid who had problems with city life in a system.

Very Raw when it comes to Football.

That's the reasoning? Is there anything about his game that appeals to you?

I had the joy of watching the Brendan Fevola show first hand in Darwin yesterday, before heading to a Cold Chisel concert ... what a beaut day!

Anyhoo, I saw a young talent the likes of which I've not witnessed for a long time. I believe Manson is 18/19 and has popped up from nowhere. Waratahs knew very little about him when he arrived so gave him a run in the seconds and he kicked 10 goasl. They promoted him to the seniors and he kicked 8.6 and took 20 marks. Yesterday, Tahs kicked it to Fev at every single chance and Manson had to play mostly CHF. Fev kicked 8 and Manson kicked 10. The kid is raw, skinny and will need some serious gym time ... but he is seriously good!

I was right a few years ago when I was providing some feedback to Greg Miller when he wanted young Kickett and Calma-Holt watched - and I told Greg to forget them and watch a young bloke called Jurrah instead, but Greg ignored me. For mine, Manson is a MUCH better prospect than Jurrah. Get him!!!!

Thanks Hopper. Why not punt on Waylon at 55 if hes there? By your description, he'd only have to play one game for us to get our moneys worth!

As an aside, it seems to me, with the exception of Jurrah, the black fellas that do make in the big smoke have had a bit of practice at boarding schools on scholarships (e.g. Rioli), the Clontarf academy or are from the city (e.g. Yarran). I coach some gifted Tiwi boys in the relative big smoke and have watched their white-fella confidence grow enormously in a short space of time. I reckon the AFL needs to try and introduce remote indigenous talent to the big smoke earlier than 17-18 yo. Identify hot youngsters at 13-15 and set up some short term 2-way cultural exchanges, whereby the remote lads play for a big smoke whitey club for 3-4 weeks and the guns from the whitey club play remote black fella footy for a few weeks. this helps us all understand each other a bit better in a cultural and footy sense.

Waylen dreams of AFL career
GREY MORRIS | October 26th, 2011

WARATAHS goalkicking machine Waylen Manson welcomes any comparison to Melbourne's Liam Jurrah.

The 18-year-old has booted 28 goals in just three appearances in a red-and-white jumper .

A bag of 10 in Division 1 on the opening day of the NTFL season was followed by eight and 10 in the Premier League.

Last Sunday's 10 goals against Wanderers were kicked alongside one of his heroes, former Carlton and Brisbane spearhead Brendan Fevola.

The Jurrah connection got Manson talking about his playing future.

"I've seen Liam play for Yuendumu in some carnivals back home and he's a good player," Manson said.

"If I can be as good as him or close, I could be a chance to play in the AFL and that's what I want."

Manson hails from Billiluna, a tiny community that lies 160km south of Halls Creek in Western Australia's Kimberley region.

But his birthplace is Derby on WA's northwest coast, an unlikely starting point for a potential AFL star.

A member of Kururrungku's losing semi-final side in last year's East Kimberley competition, Manson spent the 2011 season with WAFL club Claremont.

His handful of colts and reserves appearances for the Tigers was enough to arouse interest from several AFL clubs.

Jurrah's club Melbourne, West Coast, Essendon, Western Bulldogs and St Kilda are sniffing around his front door.

Possessed with a springheeled leap, strong hands and a deadly accurate drop punt, the 190cm Manson will create headaches among opposition defenders for a long time to come.

He was one of 20 WA invitees to this month's AFL draft camp in Melbourne where he impressed with his speed and agility.

Does he have a preference for an AFL club. Possibly West Coast who are based in Perth?

"I don't care, even if the club's in Melbourne," he said. "It will be worth it if I make the AFL."

Hope it's ok to post this here and not in the journos thread. Mods please feel free to move if necessary.

The more I see of him, the more I like him.

Could be a good pick up for a 190cm kid and if he stated that he'd love to play in Melbourne, at least there'd be less chance of another indigenous player going walkabout on us again.

I believe he's 195cm.
