Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Start of the 4th Qtr the Tiges are defending deep and the ball is hacked forward and it hits Dusty and flies up into the air, after which Dusty catches the ball.

He was on his own and there was no contest between two players, so the umpires couldn’t play their favourite game: ‘sorry we didn’t see it’.

There’s absolutely no rational or acceptable reason for the umpires to have not called it a mark.

The thought of an agenda feels insane to think about, however the amount of ‘non calls’ is infuriating and impacts on the enjoyment of watching the game.
No mark as not 15 according to the ump. That wasn’t long after the HTB free against Bolton at the centre bounce. I don’t think anyone at the ground including the commentators thought it was HTB.

Happy to quote myself on this matter:

It occurred to me watching the game yesterday that if the organization that runs the competition is corrupt, how can we expect anything different from the umpiring department.

Those that object to this thinking all seem to be associated or involved with the footy industry. Which if you follow the dots ...

I have been going to the footy since 1969
For us older fans remember when there was only one field umpire - they were the days
I simply NEVER remembering talking about umpiring as much as what is being talked about now in those days
Of course there were the odd bad decisions. there was some booing but I never ever remember going home and complaining ad nauseum about free kicks which is what is happening now
The game was far better umpired when there was only one guy, his interpretation and he stuck to it all game
I also dont remember players getting as wound as up as they do now
For each additional umpire over the years the game has changed for the worse
The constant whistling that goes on now does my head it - it completely stops free flow of the game and noone knows what t he hell the free is for or who is to take it
I know the AFL will not countenance any criticism of their game and keep saying it is in the best shape ever but it is not
It is becoming a huge turn off for fans

Agree with a lot of this, but I did like 2 umpires being introduced. Beyond 2 and we get the rubbish we are served up now.

At least the cops agree.....

Nah, Richmond supporters weren't stunned, we've seen this for years.

And no wonder Baker wants out. He has had his head ripped off his shoulders 2 weeks in a row for no whistle.

2 weeks? Are you new here? Try at least 2 years.

Below is an extract from Slobbo's "Tackle" article.

The wheel is turning slowly by I expect the AFL to stay shtum and ride it out.

Richmond supporters were livid. They had every right to be. The free kick count was 20-11, but that wasn’t the problem. The problem was the number of free kicks umpires didn’t pay when it appeared the Tigers had earnt them. Time and again, the Tigers would lay a tackle and not be rewarded for incorrect disposal. Salt was added to the wound when the Dockers, at times, received free kicks for incorrect disposal by the Tigers. Once again, confusion reigned about what exactly is prior opportunity. The more cynical Tigers supporter would say ‘what’s new’. Over the past five years, Richmond’s differential between free kicks for and free kicks against is -332. The next worst side is Hawthorn on -108. How can that properly be explained? Is there a vendetta? Or are the Tigers just sloppy or too aggressive with their tackling? If this was politics, a Royal Commission would be demanded. And if this was politics, we’d love Tigers officials to have parliamentary privilege so we could hear what they really think.

Andrew Dillion is supposed to be a Richmond supporter.
FFS surely he's as frustrated as the rest of us.
We don't want favouritism, just to be umpired equally.
Fix it fast or fans will start turning their backs on the game.

I went to the social club after the game and I have never heard as many die-hard supporters saying they are contemplating giving the game away. The common theme was “I can't do this anymore”. These people have been lifelong, committed supporters and are now contemplating walking away. My wife has already quit. She wont go anymore and will not renew her high-value membership next season.
The game is haemorrhaging. The grass roots are dying all due to the umpiring and other anti-fan, ridiculous AFL policies such as the contrived unequal draw, political posturing that has nothing to do with the game, and their socialist “equalisation” policies. The media companies are happy because they get their curated content and the AFL therefore gets their income, but it is coming at a huge cost. I can see the game dying from within. The fans made the game what it is today. They should be listened to before anything else.

FMD. Dilligan is just another inbred AFLHQ corporate flog. Bit like pollies really, he'll hide away in his orifice n try to avoid the situation and if he gets hunted by the meedjia for a response there'll be ten minutes of gibber n waffle without a single thing being said.

He's a puppet.
CFL boy's club were petrified of appointing Benny Gale.

They wanted someone they could attach puppet strings too.

Even though our effective tackling is really poor, whenever we do make one stick and the opposition has had an eternity and it’s incorrect disposal, the cheats just call “play ooon” every time.

I lost count of how many times the commentators were “bemused” at what we copped yesterday. Even Brad Johnson - who hates Richmond - was critical of what these cheats were dispensing on us.

Dilllion is another AFL jock sniffer.
The free kick against Nakas was an absolute disgrace.
But the media aren't looking at that but at the 50 because of Dows brain fade.

is Roco the only mainstream sport's journo that's finally starting to begin to do their job these days?
How many sport’s journo’s are there? I mean trained and accredited journalists.

Most of the lunatics are former players who have ghost writers making up articles. Those other “real” journalists are in the pocket of the afl empire.
They don’t have any integrity to write articles in the public interest.
They just keep talking and writing *smile* for content for their paymasters .

Why is the club silent? Where's Gale? Call out the blatant cheating FFS. Cop the fine but grow some balls. Enough is enough.

I posted this in the game day thread:
The siren goes, the whistle sounds, Dow looks at the ump who has his hand raised for half time, Dow drops the ball. Ump pays 50.

In the 3rd, Freo player runs the ball out of bounds, deliberate is paid. Freo player tosses the ball to the boundary umpire. No 50 paid.

A couple of years ago i remember Broad (i think)running with the ball in the backline, slipping, getting tackled, the ball touching the ground, then Broad handballing- holding the ball was paid cos the ball touched the ground whilst he was tackled. The same thing happened yesterday to a freo player- no free.
It never ceases to astound me how these frees- like the Broad rushed point earlier this year- are plucked from nowhere very rarely, but that rarely always seems to be against us.
