Tough one for the umps coming up. Who do they favour? The team that their ex boss tried so hard to get a flag for by changing the rules, or the team that their current bosses want to win so the exposure in non aussie rules states will increase?
They don't even need to fully get rid of it. Just loosen it up a bit so it doesn't result in so many ridiculous 50m penalties. It just looks so cartoonish at times. Allow the player on the mark to move a foot to the left or right and allow them to move beyond 5m whenever they want. They are putrid because AFl head honchos keep loading the umps with imbecile type rules eg STAND. Ginnivan was given one today because he Stood on the Mark. If the new CEO does not get rid of the STAND he will just be a Yes Man.
No point standing on the mark and being a witches hatThey don't even need to fully get rid of it. Just loosen it up a bit so it doesn't result in so many ridiculous 50m penalties. The Stand rule has become just another absolute joke and farce. It's all over the place like a dog's breakfast. No-one seems to know WTF the proper implementation is any more; I see frequent aberrations that are now virtually all ignored. They are putrid because AFl head honchos keep loading the umps with imbecile type rules eg STAND. The whole Ginnivan thing just shows how much it stinks. That 50 against ginivan was obscene...insane..putrid..pathetic ..not my opinion but an a facf..you have no love for footy if you tbink that *smile* is ok
I found it to be a thing of beauty. After all the ducking frees he’s got it was karma. That 50 against ginivan was obscene...insane..putrid..pathetic ..not my opinion but an a facf..you have no love for footy if you tbink that *smile* is ok
Watch how many times field umps are listening to their earpiece and answering to someone during the gameThe whole Ginnivan thing just shows how much it stinks.
They actually admitted they were going to umpire him differently to other players. Then realised how sick that was and changed back but not too much, just a PR cover up exercise.
It s like our free kick differential. An approximate average of - 60 per season over the past six or so seasons is nothing but a bias.
The bias previously did not usually occur in finals which is why our free kick bias generally in finals did not happen. No longer.
Its becoming so obvious that I watch a game and am automatically thinking of who is favoured by the officiating.
Thats not why I watch sport.
I watch for the unpredictability, the freakish skills, the unlucky bounces.
Remember when officials had a good game if they were not noticed. Doesnt happen often now.
I have watched us be beaten by Sydney when the 50 should have been paid against Sydney for a kick out of the ground.
I have watched a winning goal to Lynch overturned on no clear evidence to the contrary. (just an aside that the review was introduced to stop obvious blunders like the Hawkins and Liberatore mistakes in finals, not overturn goal umpire soft calls)
I have watched the Rugby the other night when a penalty to Australia meant we would win the game and was then reversed.
I have watched the rugby league when there were about six players sin binned in one game.
I have watched Papley push with two hands in the back to mark and kick the winning goal.
Sorry but I am really losing interest in watching sport.
Its just become another sick example of the fix being in and the result influenced by officials.
They’re talking to each other.Watch how many times field umps are listening to their earpiece and answering to someone during the game
The umps aren’t umpiring the game someone that’s behind the scenes is telling them what to do all through the game
You sure or are they being directed by an AFL official? They’re talking to each other.
I’m certain they’re talking to each other. I guess there’s a possibility there’s another voice in there as well. You sure or are they being directed by an AFL official?
Definitely for the 9mt rule. Lot's of players are given leeway and asked to move back to the 9 but if you do what Ginnivan did, which is to run straight to the point, sort of in a demonstrative manner, he was imo rolling the dice as to if he'd be pinged. Not really sure the ginnivan free was for the stand rule. I didn’t hear what umpire said but I thought it was cos he was supposed to go back 9 metres to allow the kicker room. Umpire didn’t appear to say anything other than “50m” and if I’m not mistaken Moju was penalised similarly in our finals game and not too much was said about it. It seems umpires enjoy the grandstanding these days - perhaps they have inferiority complexes.
Correct. it's the difference between being over the mark due to being involved in play and running over the mark. It's applied in a similar way in general play away from the 9m line too. The umps will give you a couple of meters leeway and just ask the player to move back but if someone runs 5+ meters over the mark they risk getting pinged. Not really sure the ginnivan free was for the stand rule. That should be a full time job for somebody. It was nice to see channel 7 had someone in the earpiece of Luke Hodge who could correct the commentators when they didn't know the rules and went off half-cocked as usual.
They’re talking to each other.
