Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

I felt sorry for the umps on the weekend. They just generally look bereft of confidence. Its not their fault they are poorly resourced, have no leadership, and have to adjudicate half-baked rules everyone hates and create more problems than they solve.

I was watching the adjudication of the stand and the protected area rules on the weekend, the umps are on a hiding to nothing. Its just not possible to adjudicate them clearly and consistently and keep the game flowing at the same time. Which means they are inevitably a dogs breakfast and cause frustration.
Great post. I agree. They are hopeless. But they are being hopelessly led.

It’s amazing. And ironic.

We lose the Sydney game on the pathetic premise that “common sense” was being applied instead of following the rules. And now, we lose another game because …wait for it….the umpires were just following the rules where stopping play was concerned. “Common sense” where a seriously injured player is involved doesn’t apply now.

It’s unreal.

The umpires and the AFL just pick and choose to suit when it comes to Richmond. Never seen such judicial bias in any sport with any team, whether I follow the team or not. Never.

Yeh. And did you see the dialogue between Sidebottom and the ump over the timeclock? The ump said we've been instructed to make sure guys don't "milk the clock". So you get 30 seconds according to the rules but the umpires can use their discretion (common sense?) to decide if a player is taking the *smile*. Seriously?

SEN have just published the latest AFL Free Kick ladder........no prizes for guessing who's coming last.

Warning, link contains photo of saltiest coach on planet, avert your eyes.

lol. It amuses me when other club supporters moan about the umps when they play us. The Carlton bitching last week was hilarious. A tiger fan near me yelled out "we cop it every week so shut the *smile* up"

All players should go for the Ben Brown 50m run up even if the mark is 5m out that’d rundown the clock

And now, despite the fact an umpire can, at their discretion, halt play if the play is too close to an injured player, the AFL has (as you’d expect) ticked off on how the umpires handled the situation claiming that the play wasn’t near Prestia.

Are they *** serious ??? The ball was kicked over his prone body at one stage !!! The play was all around him you lying aholes.

The AFL is the most dishonest and untrustworthy organisation in Australia. It’s this complete lack of trust in them that’s behind so many people checking out of the game.

Yeah. N Reiwoldt was funny OTC. Said it was a shocker and shouldnt have happened, as whole panel did, and the read statements from us (Balmey) and the AFL. Balmey said we stuffed up, AFL said nothing to see here. NR says no surprises there, Richmond own it, AFL denies. They were shaking their heads at the AFL statement

The AFL is unaccountable. Objectively. If you have an unaccountable organisation, you have dishonesty and slackness at absolute best, corruption and incompetence at worst.

The AFL went on to blame us for not calling for a stretcher

On OTC NR highlighted the farcical nature of the situation, play going on around a concussed Prestia, back and forth, almost kicking over the top, at one stage the ump tells players checking on Prestia, and possibly Prestia and Clanger the trainer, its not clear, TO GET OUT OF THE PROTECTED AREA! Riewoldt actually said 'he can't get out of the protected area because he's knocked out! Sorry to shout, but you cannot make this *smile* up.

That umpire should be investigated by SafeWork Victoria. What an absolute knuckle dragger
