Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Pretty much all year it's looked like bias. Against RFC by umpires.

I don't care why. I'm just taking about optics.

From POV it looks corporate. But maybe I'm too suspicious.

Signpost - if Trent Cotchin gets a foreign eyelash above his shoulder he gets a free. Not because of rules or other silly ideas. Because he is AFL product and admired by the media.

Until last week Trent Cotchin has not been refereed into games the way he was a couple of years ago. Because he's now clumsy? Because he was no longer product.

His form is good now. And he was doted on by umpires in the Sydney game.

But it felt more corporate than that. Has there been a shift in umpire bias since the Murdoch piece?

The Murdoch piece?

The dissent rule is changing again mid year...:cautious:
An admission that brad Scott got it wrong? Perhaps but changing it mid year tarnishes the comp.
It also still leaves a crazy amount open to interpretation & abuse of the rule.
FFS they're all over the shop.

yeah the umpires definitely found a better common sense ground on dissent from what Leysy saw this weekend.

That part is good to see.

Why haven't the AFL come out and acknowledged that so everyone can play/watch knowing what the ruling will be?

Because Brad Scott is a stubborn know it all prick.

Article online that says umpires had been told to lessen the strictness of the dissent rule and that no 50s were given on the weekend…..

that’s because the Tigers didn’t play, idiots!

The AFL sycophants out in force now praising the toning down of the dissent rule. After all raving about how great it was and what a super solution to umpire respect and number shortages it was.

So it appears it is going to back to what it was and has been for ages.

Buckley tying himself up in verbal knots now on SEN praising the change. Mince saying it had become a free for all for players against umpires and something needed to be done. WTF?

They are both praising the whole process.

come on people ease up. Scotty's doing a great job, you should see him at his desk at HQ, first to arrive at 8.55, last to leave at 4.35, hardly ever plays patience on his computer, brings a lot to the table. Will blitz his performance review.

Dean Margetts, x-AFL umpire just spoke common sense on SEN. Was part of the umpiring group last year. Said the AFL never consulted them about the change in dissent interpretation and that he was surprised when it came out at the start of the year. Said he has never heard anything from a player in his 20 years that was offensive. Didn't think there was an issue that required AFL intrvention.

Appears it was simply another AFL executive exercising power for the sake of it. *smile*.

Hearing him now. Also said he understood players' emotions. It's not hard.

If Brad Scott wanted to make his mark early, why didn’t he just lift a leg and pee on the furniture? Would have been a much more positive outcome.

well, Margetts mustn't have been aware of the massive issue of all these players at lower levels abusing umpires to the extent that they were leaving umpiring in droves.
But it doesn't matter, because after just 12 Rounds Brad Scott's piece of *smile* rule cunning plan has worked exactly as it should, people are lining up to be umpires again, everything is hunky dory at the grass roots, crisis averted.
Players can now go about raising their arms, safe in the knowledge that the world won't spin off it's axis. Just don't raise an eyebrow at the same time coz that's a 50!

Yeh its a joke. Scott should be fronting a press conference explaining exactly what feedback/research/investigation was conducted by his department that resulted in such a ridiculous, unnecessary and divisive change. That essentially has been deemed unreasonable & unworkable.

Now we just need to focus on the stand rule, prohibited contact, the MRP, noise pollution at games........
