Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Two things that until it happens the umpiring will continue to be a) crap and b) biased.

Professional umpires it has to happen sooner rather than later in a professional sport with professional players and administrators it has part time amatuer officials we will never get consistency until they are all working from the same playbook. Second so long as the umpires boss is someone who used to coach a team and was given the flick by that team the umpires will umpire accordingly.

Strongly agree. Must become a professional position.

Too many inconsistent *smile* wits running around out there in green.

Can someone else also have a look at the centre bounce after the White goal that put us in front. I believe the Freo ruckman took the ball out of the ruck and he was then tackled and he did not get a kick or hanball away. There is a rule that if this occurs it is an automatic free kick. If this was paid we would have won the game. I'd like to get others' opinions on this incident. Thanks

Someone else said 2 freo rucks went up for the throw in that led to the winning goal. I didn't notice it but if thats true, we were robbed.

I haven't looked at that one yet but it wasn't that one, it was the centre bounce after the White goal.

If we thought tonight was bad, wait till we play the drug cheats and west coast in rounds 9 and 10, they'll get all the dodgy frees and we will have to fight tooth and nail to get one.

I played a round of golf with an AFL umpire (Matthew James) several years ago. He told me he was on a 6 figure salary. not sure if this is all umpires but tell me how that is not enough $$$ to be Full time??

A while back there was something in the paper about scope for the top umpires to earn six figures. That was five or more years ago.

Didnt we kick at least 3 goals from 50s and frees? (Vickery, Jack, Knights)

I actually didn't think the umpiring was too bad until the last term where Freo had those back-to-back, push in the back free kicks that were mind boggling. Then of course the goal umpire making a save topped it all off. Make no mistake, that ball was going through. Hit his leg that was behind the goal line.

I think why we are all getting upset over the goal line umpire is that when there is a flurry of players in the square and the ball gets kicked through the field umpire rushes in and organises a committee meeting between all the umpires and then calls for a review, why he didn't do this last night and ask the goal umpire is there a chance the ball hit you behind the line and if the goal umpire say's he isn't sure, then they go and have a look at the video, it's the fact that they didn't even have a llok is what is getting people offside, oh and the fact the umpire couldn't stop paying frees to freo at the start of the last qtr.

As a nuetral observer (although wanting the tiges to win), most if not all the 50/50 wnet freos way...NOW, thats happens ALL the time to every team that comes over here. Its even worse when someone plays the Eags, believe it or not. What i find even more mind boggling is (asis always the case here) the crowd booed the umpires off cos THEY reckon they get a raw deal!!..GO FIGURE

Yeah, unfortunately you just have to factor in a raw deal when you go interstate. On the goal umpire blunder, it was terrible, amateur, but Whiteys repeat effort negated the effect on the game IMO.

goal umpire must have a prosthetic leg. couldn't he feel the ball hit him in the leg? lethal Leigh thought it would have gone through then after the game said maybe not. you could see by his foot position that it must have clearly been over the line. those 2 in the back had me totally baffled and ive never liked this sliding rule. it was brought in to fix a non existent problem

I have not yet watched the replay and missed the 2nd half so if what I am reading is correct, then the result is even harder to take. I just wish there was some recourse action that could be taken for poor decisions like this one.

I know it is hard enough to play over in the West due to bias from the crowd let alone playing against the umpiring also.

That umpire should be sued by the bookies for "influencing" the game.

Absolute disgrace. Of course CEO of ALF House *smile* Esq will ring Dimma on Monday,
telling Dimma he is a bad bad boy for making negative comments about the umpiring and
then fine Dimma $10,000.00 and asking Dimma to apologise to the umpires.

If that happens after a goal was clearly scored, it will show just how far out of touch
those that supposedly have the games best interests at heart are.

Thought Razor gave us a couple, however thought hey we're bloody poor, inconsistent , games just too over officiated now, much too touchy an I'm hating seeing players stay off he ball so thy don't get pinned an can try an get a cheap free, game seems to be going against everything hat made it great an played with great spirit....too much soft soccer *smile*
