U18 players to watch - 2013

Conlon played at St Damian's and then moved to St Mary's. Correct, he was a foot taller than all the other kids at 13 or 14.

Thanks TigerAZZ, got the teams mixed up as one of my nephew's played down there as well as Macleod.

Any thoughts on Sam Heavyside? Over age player playing for the Bendigo Pioneers. Tough on-baller, won the b/f as an underage player in the same team as Ollie Wines, then broke his foot last season.

For those in the know is or should there be any love for Dwayne Wilson with our 2nd pick this year, seems to be one of the types we really need. Flashy outside runner who can break games open and hits the scoreboard

What do people think of Cameron McCarthy? a Light KPF but 195cm? Although broke his leg

I'd pick him just off that surname!

Billy Hartung is one that we should seriously be looking at. Pace, flair, run & carry, and seriously good skills.

I like him and Nathan Freeman very much.

I read a report on Big Footy about Freeman that was so good I think his grandmother wrote it
It expected him to go at 14 because he needed to use handball more on traffic
If he's half as good as the review i hope FJ visits him.

Doesn't seem to be although they will no doubt have highlights on the TAC Future Stars show at 1.30.

Boyd has 3 goals 23 mins first qtr.

What was it? Three months out with a bung ankle, phhhht. Just resting up n avoiding the crappy winter slog so he could showboat at the big parade.

Petracca looks ok. Hartung too.

22 touches and 2 goals for Billy Hartung today, along with Salem he should be firmly on our radar. Boyd also kicked 4, GWS won't be relinquishing the number 1 pick IMO.

There appears to be a feeling that Ben Lennon will go around 9 to 10in the draft.
A 188/189cm half forward, who can run on the ball and kick long multiple goals would be a fillip to us.

Darcy Hourigan of SA appeared to have impressive U18 champ stats too, but appears unsighted in the first round.
I thought it might be age, but he's born on the same day as the highly fancied Matt Scharenburg.
Any views on Hourigan?

The taller and heavier Mitch Harvey's stats look impressive too.

To me, a minimum average of 4 marks a game plus a multiple goal average is crucial.

Marcus Bontempelli appears to be a likely type as well, being a tall midfielder who can kick multiple goals.
The Northern Knights boys have a strong work ethic now so, if mentally like Vlastuin, would be worthwhile.

Patrick McCartin of Vic Country took a lot of marks and averaged two goals a game. Geelong Falcons are pretty good too.
He seems unrated as well.

Hmm!
The goal-kicking rovers don't appear as evident, but they usually miss out on rep selection anyway.
The TAC & state-based comp stats may provide a better clue here.

Personally I love Hourigan, such natural footballer and in particular a natural forward. He's a big brute of a guy (though not that tall for a KPF - 190cm from memory), would be a better version of Aaron Edwards in our forward line. Playing style reminds me more so of Jack Darling. Shocking tank at the moment could explain his fluctuating form but that will improve with a few pre seasons under his belt. Hope he's on the table at our 2nd rounder.

For those interested TAC Cup Future Stars did a phantom top 10 before:

1. Boyd
2. Aish
3. Kelly
4. Scharenberg
5. Billings
6. Sheed
7. Lennon
8. McDonald
9. Kolodjashnij
10. Bontempelli

That leaves Taylor, Salem, Dunstan, Dumont, Freeman, Hartung and Crouch among others on the table. Plenty of solid mids. My prediction is the Pies will be given 11 and take Taylor (been into him all year) and we'll take Salem (also been into him all year) which would be a great result. Salem is silk
