Trent Cotchin (Merged)

I salute you, Captain Crunch
An absolute battering ram in the clinches.
Champion man.
Cotchin is the greatest Captain I have seen in 50+ years of following the Yellow and Black.
And may he start the game in the square for the opening bounce in his 300th.
Bloody magnificent career.

He's an unbelievable revisionist is plough. Never listen to much of what he says when speaking historically. He loves trying to claim credit for things he had no involvment in. The guy spent years in solariums, says enough about his vanity.
:clap2

"Rain on the scarecrow, Blood on the Plough!"

Back on topic.

Congrats on 300, Legend!

Captain Cotch.
Courageous.
Culture Creator.
Contact Connoisseur.
Competitive Combatant.
Club Connector.
Caring.
Champion Chimpah!

Good article about the champ in the sun today.

Says he is still not decided on playing next year.

Bit sad to read his feelings about the Brownlow the AFL would have been better off just not awarding it that year.
No way Jose. Cotchy getting the Brownlow was via the Essendon drugs scandal was a rare, only?, time when the fairly frequent unjust misses by the Umps in awarding the Medal could be rectified. It was joyous.

He was better than Watson that year, full stop.

Totally hypothetical and impossible, but I'd like to see it happen every year. Just as often as not the rightful winner comes second or third. Rightful in terms of impact, fans and coaches etc. I'd love to see a system where at the end of the umps vote, the coaches can vote on the first, second or third placegetter, if second or third get a 2/3 majority of votes, so it was to be clear to be re-awarded, they take the Medal. Sorry for off-topic rant.

I love you Cotchy!

There will be 300 game players even with as many premierships again BUT I guarantee you will never get a player who kicks over 1000 goals, 4th on all time list.

Two completely different players and careers
Don’t want to turn this into a pissing contest :) but there have been 6 players to have kicked over 1000 goals. An exclusive club, yes.
But after tomorrow night, Cotch will be one of only TWO players to have played and captained in at least 3 flags, to have won at least 1 brownlow and to have played 300 games. He joins D i c k Reynolds in an even more exclusive club.
Both he and Franklin are legends of the game. Maybe the afl should accord our champ the same respect and coverage as it did Franklin

Edit: swear filter blocks the shorter more common version of Richard :)

I’m a bit underwhelmed with the coverage of this occasion in the media. For such a decorated player and after all he’s achieved I would have thought there would be more of a focus on Trent reaching 300 games.

During the week one of the outlets led off with Jason Fletcher debuting and had Trent behind that. I mean… come on.

If this was Dangerfield or Hawkins etc… it would be everywhere. Am I right or have I missed something?

In the top 5 or 6 most important people in our great club's history. We have been blessed with so many inspiring and powerful figures during this recent era of success from Gale to Hardwick, O'Neal to Martin, Houli to Riewoldt. Without Cotchin implement and driving the vision, none of it is possible.

What a person, what a player, what a career. His impact is immeasurable, his legacy unimpeachable and his presence irreplaceable.

It has been such a privilege to watch you dominate, grow and inspire. You hold a special place in my heart, as a man willing to show strength through vulnerability.

All hail the Chimp!

I would be extremely disappointed if the players , collectively don’t fight this game without giving 100% effort for their former captain.

Nothing less than a win is unacceptable and a below par performance disrespectful.

***apologies for going over the top***

On the RFC website there is an absolutely lovely messages from players, family, coach. Just great listening.

I’m hoping our cheer squad have made a banner that the great man deserves. A proper photo image of him instead of the cartoon one’s we usual do.

I don’t do a lot of mainstream media but doesn’t surprise me they aren’t giving him much attention,

They didn’t give him much during the premierships either , it was all dusty focused ,

Dusty was the flamboyant lead singer and Trent was the reliable backbone of the band drummer .
