Trent Cotchin (Merged)

Awesome game by the chimp. If he played liked that every week we'd never lose a game.

We all love Cotchin the bull. But I love Cotchin the play maker. Exquisite in heavy traffic with his weaving, faking and general evasiveness. Then there is his link up work. Pretty to watch

I agree Leon a tremendous game yesterday from the skipper, which was one of many from a tremendous career so far.

His footwork is almost back to it it’s best.

Carving traffic, bullying his way out.

Clearly BOG yesterday.

It was all on show yesterday. I got pretty excited, it looked as if if he's combined his 2017 selflessness with his young Cotchy superstarness. Seems too good to be true to keep that up to that level, but I can't help thinking he might.

If I wanted to critisise Cotch, it would be that he has always had that ability but for some reason doesn't produce it on a regular basis. Sure he's very good, but he has the football ability to be great. Gary Ablett great. It seems that the issue for him may be motivation or mental toughness. Ability to push himself through the physical pain barrier that AFL commands even when your body says no more. Gut running. That's the only explanation I can come up with to justify his inconsistencies of performance. His work rate and football skill yesterday was ridiculous. Other players cannot do that stuff. Why not the week before? It's as if he needed to reassert himself on the contest and determine the result like he did in the final series last year. But this time he also wanted to remind everyone that he's a genius.
Let's hope we see it more often.

No surprise the Premirship skipper got the 10 votes, however I see Reiwoldt, Rance, Edwards were the other vote getters, like to see a few of the under 23s starting to get in these

Great game by the skipper after a shocker in his 200th. That's what the best players do, don't hang around in slumps for long.

Are you worried we'll fall off a cliff a la North Melbourne after our threepeat?

I don't agree. I think Cotchin is one of most tagged players of the Tigers. He is also often given a role. He doesn't have the explosive power of a Martin or Dangerfield so is more taggable. Last week there was clearly something wrong imo, coincidence after his hospital visit? Probably not. I agree, I'd love to see him get the 30+ touches he did against the Hawks but knowing he can be tagged and how dangerous his disposals are, these are likely reasons he has poorer games statistically at times.

We saw the reinvented Cotchin on Saturday. Two years ago his 30 possessions would have been mostly ineffective. Cotchin v3 not only was instrumental in the middle but he reminded his teammates how the new Richmond plays - attack the ball, move it forward with attacking handballs and spread and open up the game.

Was a great game by cotch and all his leadership traits were on display.

No biased - he was.

Great to see him back linking up play. He had gone a bit too much the other way in opening rounds i.e. being the in and under brute, but not enough on the outside.
