Avoid the UK at the moment. It is *smile*ing freezing.
Going there in July on the Wattlesprigs cricket tour, carn't wait! anybody here been on one of their tours? Also stopping at Gallipoli on the way over as part of the tour.

as a lot of you know, i was forced to cancel my brazil trip due to health reasons. thankfully i am now on the mend and i am considering at a 10-12 day trip to asia in the second half of august. i was thinking of going the tried and tested option of Phuket. its not everyones cup of tea, but i prefer it over places like Bali.

anyway, i was also thinking of Krabi. has anyone been there? and what are your thoughts? apparently you can get there from Phuket by ferry?

thailand is great for partying, but as far as Sth East Asia goes for an all round good holiday where you can imerse yourself in another culture that hasnt been totally *smile*ed by tourism, you cant go past Siem Reap, Cambodia

Ankor Wat on acid. Do it.

sit on the beach and a few bars basically

Thailand is your best bet. Phuket or Koh Samui, but commercialized now. Think Bali about 15 years ago but with more lady boys.

Sri Lanka, or Goa India are two more destinations that have great bar and beach places.

Vietnam is good if you don't mind not living in luxury. Cambodia and Myanmar are more for your travelers. Malaysia is ok but nothing great. Singapore is a city with crap beaches.

Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam is like Phuket before it was ruined. September is the wet season so you might be cutting it fine.

I did Ankor Wat at sunrise. Amazing place. Spooky but oh so beautiful.

Didn't know that. Thought you were in Brazil. Hope all's well now.

G'day guys, I saw this thread and thought I could help some of you out. As a previous traveler with sporting time needs, I've created a website with all our relevant sports from Oz. You can click on the 'Convert to my Time' button wherever you are in the world and the start time/kick off time will appear where you are. Hope this helps.

Krabi is definitely the pick of the Thai holiday destinations Ian. Beautiful spot and I have done almost all of it twice..
I'm going back to Thailand later this year and that's where I am choosing to stay again. The Centara Resort was very nice a few years back.

Agree with others that Ankor Wat just blows your mind. I tell everyone to put it on the bucket list.

I've also done Krabi, Tigers of Old. All be in unintentionally.
I was sitting in Phuket terminal waiting for my flight home when I was wondering why everyone was watching the TV screens. I looked outside, flashing lights everywhere, and a plane had just crush landed where I was about to take off. It was monsoon season!
No flights in or out for 2 days so we had to take a bus trip to Krabi to continue our journey. The great thing was, the 2 hour bus trip was an eye opener, got to see how the real Thai people live with cows walking down the road, villages surrounded by floodwater, and the Thai's just going about their business.
The awful thing was, over half the people on the plane died.
The great thing about travel, you never know where you'll end up from one day to the next.

wow. reminds me of a dodgy moment I had landing at Phuket in 2007.

b ut moving on... that was gonna be my follow up question... whats the best way to get from Phuket to Krabi, or vice versa? I don't think there are flights. is bus the best option? pretty sure there are ferries as well...?

Koh Samui was great

koh samui is just about the most beautiful place I have ever visited, but I think its more of a place for couples... I'm either going with a mate or on my own.

I'm in koh samui right now. Can't say it's an overly couples place
