Training For 2023

I would rather have them now with another 5 weeks to go than later in the season

That's a pretty complicated debate I reckon.

Yes, you want your best side going when the whips are cracking but you also need to get in a position to contend. There's also more likelihood of them getting injured later in the year without the right preparation pre-season.

Absolutely. Missing chunks of preseason is detrimental to how one performs during the year. It’s almost impossible to play catch up once the season has started if you haven’t had the body of work during the off season.

So now we have yet another hamstring injury.
Just read that Castagna has done his.
What is going on here with injuries?

It doesn’t help with preparation though and what future risk may eventuate by being a bit behind/underdone.

As Caesar said, Lynch has not trained at full tilt the entire pre season. Hasn’t been in the main group for a second.

As others have said, from an injury perspective, this hasn’t been a great pre season. We must have about 10-11 guys or so in re-hab right now.
I get so worried when we have this many guys in rehab BEFORE the bad guys are trying to maul us at full speed.

And it's not just the old blokes falling over, it's across all age groups. Feels like we lacked continuity.

Dusty was good but not his blistering best. One bit of play I particularly noticed was Dusty leading out out full pace with Young basically at his side, Dusty tried to use his strength to manoeuvre Tylar out of the way so that the ball would pass and Dusty would double back onto the ball like he has done so many times in his career, Tylar held his ground and didn't let the ball behind.
Think Tylar will be like Grimes and Broad that can perform well on tall and mid size forwards.
I have been saying all pre-season I am a fan of Tylar.
I know many disagree but it’s time to see.
Time to let him loose against the best key forwards at North and the Dee’s. If he does well he will take full back in round 1, where it seems that Balta is not favoured. Balta off half back.
Tarrant to miss.

It isn't looking good for Luke Meehan with all of these soft tissue injuries before we have even started games. I understand the softcap restrictions but hopefully we haven't cut too deep in the fitness and rehab area. Without full pre seasons it is a battle for anyone to have a good season.

The pressure will build quickly on him unless he can turn it around. Peter Burge got most of our key troops to the line when needed from 2017 - 2020.

I'm going to say bad luck, however I did express some concern after the camp that we seemed to have been a bit down in intensity thus far and my concern was if we ramped up hard, as we must at this point, the soft tissues could come.

Hearing about Broad and Castagna today certainly makes my concern deeper but I'm a long way away and speculating so I'm sitting with bad luck. For now.
I agree Large Son of Bull with your concern.

The biggest takeaway from Broady and George doing hammies for mine is that these two dont get soft tissue injuries neither of them have a history of soft tissue injuries. that I am aware of.

Nathan and George have been 2 of the most durable players on the list the past 5 years and are 2 of the best athletes on the list.

Broad has missed games through a depressed cheekbone fracture, concussion and his syndesmosis injury in 2021.

George hasn't hardly missed any games since 2017 to be honest until the end of last season.

It's enough to get some eyebrows raised certainly.

Tigers might be in danger of hitting round 1 underdone as they did last season which resulted in the fade out losses and a run of soft tissue injuries.

The way the niggles and injuries are starting to hit he might have to play to make up the numbers !!!!!

Young will progress well for the RFC.

Grimes, Broad, Lynch, Dion and Hopper are all critical for round 1 the club needs them all ready and raring to go.

Let’s hope so. But just 5 days in the main group for the entire pre season before lacing them up for a game has me a tad nervous. Would feel better if they gave him at least another week of full training first.
They'll probably do it like when returning through the VFL and he just plays a certain number of minutes.

Sorry, bit late and should’ve asked yesterday but how did Young go playing on Dusty? I’m a big fan of his after watching him in the VFL last year

Learn from those closest to him.
Watch how Richmond plays Dusty.

Once matches starts it will be the fastest /most agile key back that goes to him.
They will have the advantage of size and strength.

Playing DM as a deep forward will be met with a challenge.
The bad guys will follow the method.

That's going to extend JR8's influence. Dusty goes up the ground and Shai drifts forward. Cumbo and Juddy fly under the radar. Then there's Big Tom, with MJ at his feet.

Remind me why Cotch is playing forward.

Tarrant will be vital to our chances in 2023, indictment talk is rubbish IMO.
I 100% hope that Tarrant can be the guy who fills the vital need.
Maybe the improved midfield will create pressure on our backline entries and give other defenders time to support Tarrant.
But If left one on one, I feel that Tarrant will disappoint, and we will need to try others very early on.

I’m with Red on this one. I have no intel but to not be participating in any drills the last couple of weeks is alarming. The most physical thing he did on the camp was carry a microphone around.

I expect him to line up Round 1 but I hope we have a mid as an our sub.
He'd have to do a lot of solid training from now on to convince me he'll be picked for Rd 1. I was thinking his repeat injuries may be due to scar tissue/muscle rupture near the site of previous injuries but Redford's comments perhaps open the possibility of back-related hamstring and calf issues? Only guesswork and it doesn't matter if we don't find out the reason, we expect they know what they are doing to get him right. I expect to see many of our senior players omitted as "managed" this season which will help them and the team to be cherry ripe for finals.

Agree but just reading the medical opinions on this site makes be very doubtful the Meatball will play round 1.

Is this best educated guessing, sharing, or spying?
You can see from TBR”s posting he has loose lips. If he is typical of medical staff in footy clubs it’s not hard to believe they would share info with other medical staff. It’s basic human nature to gossip, most people can’t help themselves. How else would journos get scoops?
