Trade Week - Richmond Only

That is a very interesting take, Stan. Adelaide can only offer 2025R3 and #64 this year. But it's still something more than just Tauru at #2.
As I said @Dyer'ere I don’t think Adelaide will get 2. But I think the reasons why they would enquire are in my post.

The Rad Crows don’t have what North want this or next year.

I’ve said previously…. I believe we get pick 2 for Lalor and FoS. And we want to keep 6.

North need other “buyers” in the market to force us to deal pick 6.

Hence Adelaide inquiry gets “press”.
Droll!

Blair won’t jump….

Regards,
Stan

Luvvin your work, Stan.

What I meant by that is, get your champions in early as your core players and build your role players later.
Draft best possible midfielders and key position forwards now and leave the hbf, hff, and small forwards for later drafts.
We can also grab players through free agency and may already have targets which we’re not privy to.
Therefore don’t trade pick 1 is the long winded answer
IMO if you were ever going to Trade pick 1, This year is the year to do it.
4 players(5) tipped to go #1.
When you consider one of those 4 will slide to pick 6.
That xtra top 10 pick is more valuable than pick 1.

Apparently the H/S says we have been discussing pick swaps with St Kilda. Makes sense as if there are two players we like that make it through to 6 (Smith/Langford/Smillie) we might be able to grab both by getting 7 in exchange for 10 or 11 + 18 or 20. Saints have previously said they are open to trading down.

Not too sure how that happens for Future picks

Crows dont have a 2nd rounder but have 3 x 3rd rounders which are not worth much due to being a weaker draft and points worthless next year. They have their F1 but cant see that being used
What I saw was Crows Pick 4 and F1 for Norths Pick 2 and F2. North would then try and use either one or both of the future first picks to get back into this years first round. No idea if this is right or not but that was being suggested.

Interesting. Pick 6 looks like it's one pick too late (I'm Smillieskeptic), while 10-11 look like flanker territory.

7 smells like Lindsay/Murphy or Armstrong.

Depends....
If Nth keep 2 and take Tauru then pick 6 is Smith or Smillie or Reid in all likelihood.
If 2 goes to us or Melb ..then it is the same result.
Its only if 2 goes to a team after 6 ie Saints...then they take a mid and push mid choices back one spot.
Still Reid Smillie Allen Lindsay and a few left fielders available.
Otherwise take Tauru at 6 and get a lesser mid at 10...ie Reid.
Ok no matter what but best if we can get 2 and or keep 6.

I agree with Stan that there is still posturing underway. But if the Taints are to do business with anyone it would probably have to be us. We got the cards.

In terms of our targets with say pick #8 I would think say Smith might be in calculations. Or maybe Smith at #6 and say Smillie at 8. If we're moving up we have somebody in mind.

GWS have 15, 16 and 21 so they could also have a realistic chance if interested. Swans with 19 and 22 probably not good enough for pick 8.

Yes but is 15&16 alone enough to get 7 or 8?
I dont think it is.

We can better that deal with 10+23.
Get 7 and onsell with 20 to north for 2.
1 2 6 11 18 24
Lalor FOS Smith/Draper/Langford/Lindsay
Allan JW Faull

Spot on, TT. They're the danger. 11+20>15+21. Would we get the deal with 11+24? It'd go close, you'd reckon.

Yes we can certainly beat GWS if we are willing to use 10 or 11, if not we could only offer 18 or 20. Your outcome above certainly looks attractive if it pans out that way.

Smillie has RCD vibes looks an impressive athlete but production is lower than others and has no aerial game so is either an extractor or nothing.

Thats a great outcome for North but why would the crows do that ?
Giving away pick #6-8 next year for a pick #30 + just for a 2 spot upgrade this year where there looks to be a top 6 and no standout player amongst them. If the crows had a F2 i can kind of understand it but no chance with F1

I’m waiting for SOS to do one of his spectacularly stupid trades on draft night.

Thats my concern with him. He has a great ceiling, but his chances of being a bust are probably bigger than anyone else touted as a top 10 pick.

RCD had no tank and couldn't get his hands on the ball though. For a mid, wasn't he like 18 disposals and game?
Smillie has already demonstrated an ability to better that.
I think that's a comparison just because they were both tall, not so much on their talents/outputs.

Possibly but they both lacked versatility, Langford for eg can go forward and be elite with his skill set

I dont see the comparison

Smillie has more production and can play multiple roles which he has done at junior level
He was also considered #1 pick for most of the year

There are things in his game that needs to improve like his foward craft but he is a very competent mid that will get better and will also improve his physicality with development

He looks every bit a 200 game AFL player

To have forward craft you have to be able to mark overhead, something that Smillie struggles to do.

If you are a 18 year old 195 cm midfielder and need to develop your physicality it may be too late.
