Trade Week - Richmond Only

Should we put a for sale sign up on pick 1 to gain an extra top 10 pick instead of giving one up?
Hello too Melb & Stk btw,
6/7/8/10/11
or
5/6/9/10/11
3 players can go top pick
First 6 is a race of 10
So even its not funny.
Just remember that the Swans wanted our Dusty pick 3 for what became Gary Rohan (6) and Lewis Jetta (14).

On points value as a guide for draft pick trades.

The AFL would have changed to the new system in 2024 but it would have hurt Brisbane so they didn't. Under the new system Brisbane would've really bled to get Ashcroft. And Marshall, well, they may bot have matched.

The Premier's suite of draft picks totalled 1707 pts. In 2025 it will total 1167.

I know you love a table-

If we rightly bid Ashcroft at 1 Brisvegas will have 131 points left when they match. Pretty much nothing in the kitty for that Marshall kid. They're gunna need some fancy footwork on draft night or get a fair chunk of deficit in 2025 if the kid gets bid around the pick 20 area.

Reckon they'll trade down before the night, TM. 27 and 34 will be sought after.

Well if you believe the points system ‘Is the word according to the almighty AFL’

……then #5 and #9 is superior to #1 ……..hmmmm

……and #10 and #11 much better than #2 and thats before we get into a discussion about #6.

……and the bumbers have 2295, which means they can match Kako at #3 (just)…….dam

Tiers within tiers. Do you think there is a top 2 tier Mr P?
In your esteemed opinion there are just two stand outs then. So why are clubs not clamoring for those picks? It beggars belief that the opposite is happening.
Nope instead they have been clamoring for top 10 - 15 picks and the clubs with picks 2 and 3 have either split those picks or are seriously considering it.

That should be an indicator to all that the picks are indeed very even to the point it won't really matter which ones you have.
Our own list manager has implied as much as the reason to why he wanted as many first rounders as we could get.
Funny how people listen to what he has to say when it suits but go deathly quiet when it doesn't.

Then some anonymous nuffie posts oh by the way NM will give up #2 and their future 1st in some lobsided deal.
This trade and ND season has been remarkable for its greed and naivety.

Ouch!!

Sorry if mentioned elsewhere , however Twomey on gettable says we won’t bid on Ashcroft and are unlikely to trade up to pick 2 or words to that effect .

Let us be clear TWA. I don’t post on this forum seeking admiration. I come here seeking the opinions of others I value. I also celebrate diversity and do not belittle or mock those who hold different views and opinions. There is great unity in diversity. There are wonderful posters on this forum all with different opinions. The thing that unites us all is the RFC.

In answer to the question I think you posed, different clubs will clearly have different draft agendas due to different list requirements. Some will like to trade down in order to gain more picks. Particularly if they have a high pick and are not interested in adding more mids to their list i.e North. Yes, we know North have been interviewing many potential draftees expected to go in the teens. WC split their pick 3 in order to facilitate committed trades. Others will sacrifice multiple picks to trade up in order to secure a targeted player i.e clearly Carlton and possibly others inc the RFC. Nothing remarkable in any of that TWA.

I like FOS and Lalor as 1 & 2. You may not agree, but I’ll continue to hold this opinion.

Finally, the innuendo over the draft helps us footy peeps fill in the breach b/w seasons. Just a bit of fun at the end of the day. Please remember that.

So we can trade draft picks until 9 November. Then that's cut off. Until before the draft on 21 November? And picks can be traded then? Before the draft?

Is that right?

Huh????? If they trade down 27 and 34 that's half the points they need for the Ashcroft bid. What club has the capacity to offer them a heap of late junk picks to firstly make up the 1200 points they'd lose plus add enough extra points for them to match Marshall? We'd nearly be the only club with the capacity to do them a favour by trading them perhaps 23 and 24 for their 27 / 34 and a future pick. That'd give them enough points to match Ashcroft and Marshall. Or perhaps GeeWhizz with picks 16 and 19 for 27 / 34 and a future.

The theory is that someone like Footscray offers them 150 points overs to get #27 but it's probably not worth it. All of Brisbane's picks evaporate after Ashcroft.

Brisbane can barely cover the Ashcroft bid if it comes at pick 1. They are hoping Ashcroft gets to 3 or 4, which will leave enough points for Marshall, as long as it is around 15-20.

GC won’t have enough points if someone bids on Lombard before about 6/7.

Both teams will go into points deficit in 2025 if these bids come early.

Essendon, on the other hand, have more points than Brisbane, so they can match a bid on Kako, even if it comes three days before the draft begins and they have to match a negative number. Obviously they want to use some of the latter picks.

This last one presents an interesting opportunity for Richmond, if they want to use it. Get to pick 11, ring Essendon and say, we will bid on Kako right now, which will cause you a few issues. Or, we can sell you this pick so you can use it on someone else. The price is your two future 1 picks and pick 28, which you are about to lose, probably along with 31 as well.

So you can get your extra first round pick now and match a bid on Kako later. Or you can choose to let us bid and either match or let us have him. Your choice.

That could be two future firsts for a slip back to 28 from 11. Might even work at 18.
