The theory is that someone like Footscray offers them 150 points overs to get #27 but it's probably not worth it. All of Brisbane's picks evaporate after Ashcroft.
Brisbane can barely cover the Ashcroft bid if it comes at pick 1. They are hoping Ashcroft gets to 3 or 4, which will leave enough points for Marshall, as long as it is around 15-20.
GC won’t have enough points if someone bids on Lombard before about 6/7.
Both teams will go into points deficit in 2025 if these bids come early.
Essendon, on the other hand, have more points than Brisbane, so they can match a bid on Kako, even if it comes three days before the draft begins and they have to match a negative number. Obviously they want to use some of the latter picks.
This last one presents an interesting opportunity for Richmond, if they want to use it. Get to pick 11, ring Essendon and say, we will bid on Kako right now, which will cause you a few issues. Or, we can sell you this pick so you can use it on someone else. The price is your two future 1 picks and pick 28, which you are about to lose, probably along with 31 as well.
So you can get your extra first round pick now and match a bid on Kako later. Or you can choose to let us bid and either match or let us have him. Your choice.
That could be two future firsts for a slip back to 28 from 11. Might even work at 18.
