Normally i carry on like a pork chop about the need for talls early.
This draft it seems is a bit different. Two talls seem to be above the others but the rest are all rated about the same.
It is a midfielder heavy draft in the first 15 to 20 picks. After about pick 15 the experts are saying it does start to drop off a bit when it comes to pure mids. Make hay while we can.
Look at the flag years we took Riewoldt at 13, Rance at 18 and Balta at 25. Tom Lynch was originally drafted at pick 11.
I would be happy to take a tall at 10 or 11 but only if they are rated better than any mid still there. Imo 18 thru 24 is the right place to target a tall and then go hard at another one or two next year in what is supposed to be a very good pool of talls.
Needless to say this opinion will possibly change in a few days time.
Atm im in the keep our picks camp but remain open to trading pick one or trading for pick 2.
The way it is going and just how even the first 10 are i keep wondering what if we traded pick 1 for melbourne's pick 5 and 9. Not that they would do that imo.
Picks 5 and 6 and we may well still get two of those top 5 mids that are often spoken about. Then we have 9, 10,11, and round it all out with 18 20, 23, 24. So we take more picks in this draft it would allow us to maximise this draft and trade for future picks if we wish.
Or the flip side is we trade for pick 2 just as long as it did not involve pick 6.
This draft it is not inconcievable that picks 10 and 11 could end up better than the top 5 picks. It is why clubs are fighting so hard for picks right thru to pick 30. It is why im in favor of hanging onto our picks for now.
