Toby Greene

Did I hear right in the umpires boss stating that it should have been paid a free?

Then why wasn't it ?

It would be hard for a defender/player in a marking contest with Greene to stop mid air and grab his foot when Toby does this again ( which he will ) . !

Maybe ive read it wrong but has the AFL condone this, the look of this, spirit of the game that they harp on about ?

There is protecting your space fairly and protecting your space by looking first, sizing up and extended the leg out to the opponent.

Its a kicking, deliberate action.

Well done AFL and Christian.

No doubt if he tries it again and the defender is switched on we'll see Greene doing a full 360 mid air, better yet, a 180.

It is clearly in the Rulebook as prohibited contact. Worst part is, the umpire can be heard saying he did nothing wrong. This is an umpire chosen for finals as one of the best and he doesn’t know what’s it’s the rulebook! All this talk about the state of the game. We need to fix the poor umpiring first!!

I’ll be surprised if he tries it again v Collingwood, I dare say Cameron has told him to cease.

u know what.. if green did this to me... i would tackle that leg and bring it down with the full force of my weight through his knee...let’s see if that little *smile* does that again.. if he plays.

Geez why don't umpires pay a lot of frees?

Player (A) has his eyes on the ball in a marking contest, with a player (B) backing into the contest;

Scenario 1:
Player A puts hand up to "protect his space" and "from being crashed into" from incoming player B. No push,
just stopping player B from crashing into him.

Deemed as ILLEGAL, free against.

Scenario 2:
Player A sticks leg out with studs out to "protect his space" and "from being crashed into" from incoming player B.

Deemed OK/Legal.

Is it any wonder why people are bemused by the AFL. Studs up is almost universally frowned upon and acted on. Yet
here in the AFL, its OK. Unbelievable.

It was interesting with all the Greene anger yesterday they showed highlights of Jarrad Waite doing the same thing many, many, many times over his career.

I heard Brad Scott on the radio on Sunday morning and this was raised. Scott said after it had happened a few times he advised/instructed Waite to do it differently ie with a bent leg and no studs out (or something like that)

Hardly a saving grace. Waite and Greene would be joint winners in the sniper award.

Right but never really been brought up with Waite in the past.

Wanna see him do his kung fu kick in front of 90k magpie supporters.

If a player grabbed Toby's leg, would that be a free against for tripping or tackling too low?

This bloke is that universally despised that is he got a Collingwood player in the face, I wouldn’t be shocked if one of there ferals jumped the fence.
