If a player grabbed Toby's leg, would that be a free against for tripping or tackling too low?

If the leg was in mid air it would be hard to call it a trip I reckon.
I hope someone rips it off, throws over his head and the ump calls "incidental contact"
I bet he finds it hard to stick the one leg out after that ;D

Probably be a free, but I'd like to see him get up n take his kick if he'd been drilled properly. Sorry Ump, I was running flat out n just saw this leg come up at my face. Was only trying to protect myself from a face full of stops. Would cure Toby's leg cocking issues in a hurry.

Maggots, the ump who didn't award a free against Greene, has been dropped for this week's matches.

Make life difficult for the AFL honchos and pay the price immediately.

so he should be. It’s in the rulebook and you can hear on the broadcast the umpire say he did nothing wrong at the time. Needs to do some homework over the offseason

Geez if every ump was dropped for one bad decision there'd be none left.

I can accept a decision error, but this was a lack of knowledge which is unacceptable. Umpire said, he’s allowed to do it. The rules say he can’t.

It's interpretation of the rule. He is allowed to do it (stick his leg out) but how it impedes another player is where the free is paid or not. Like pretty much every other umpire it's how they see it and interpret the act.

You wouldnt have to grab it, you could just use your forearm to deflect it upwards like a karate punch block.
he would still end up on his head, no free against.

It's still contact with his leg. What you're describing is very close to tunnelling

True that.
Would it help if i pretended the sun/light was in my eyes and i had to raise my hand to shield it?
Just raising your hands to take the mark could cause the same result. its all about timing.

I see the Toby Greene sympathy propaganda is working overtime.

Are you referring to that putrid news report last night where his mum was making excuses for his anti-social behavior?
Yeah, that and others. It’s terrible his cousin took his own life back in June but it feels like it’s being used as an excuse and as an opportunity to elicit sympathy for Toby.

If I’m wrong please correct, I thought she called in SEN or someone on Toby’s behalf.

Please correct as yeah it’s sad for Toby’s cousin. Anytime I hear something like that I’m saddened but no excuse for his hair pulling, slamming an oppositions players head into the turf, his hands playing close to an oppositions players face(doing what)., that’s where the sympathy compassion stops.

Hope if he ventures forward, and he will, Grimes introduces him to his glove.

Not sure if it was the Prelim or another match, but I remember vividly when Greene started arsing about, Dave grabbed him by the shirt, lifted him onto his toes and gave him some friendly advice. Grub was quite rattled after that and didn't fire a shot.

Toby Greene is scared of Richmond.

Story today on the loss of his cousins back in June to suicide and how that has driven him.
