Tiger AAs 2020

I agree. Personally, as a fan though, I would also like this acknowledgement for him as well.

Im certain Dusty wouldnt care less about it either way.

Agreed I dont think the Tiger King gives a fat rats arse about AA.

He's all about Premierships and Norm Smiths.

Hopefully the great man leads his team to the premiership again and himself to another Normie.

That's why it's such a contentious team and good debate, it's all opinion.

I love Dustin but I don't think he should have been in the side last year, nor this year. He had a top shelf finals series last year which is irrelevant to the AA side but it sticks in people's minds. Most of last year and this year was up and down.

I could find posts from the first third of last season when people on here were saying he was satisfied by his big contract and had stopped putting in.

Agree with the Contrarian here - Dusty cruises for a lot of the H&A these days and that's how they pick the AA team. He doesn't care, winds up only for big games, for the finals and Norm Smiths these days.

Performing in the games that matter make him the best. Let the others have their AA's, means nowt.

How many AAs did Cyril get?

sorry BR but you are barking up the wrong tree. By any objective measure, except perhaps applying the measure of himself, and harshly, ie an average Dusty game by Dusty's standards is a very good game by anyone else standards (I think you are getting sucked into that one), by any objective measure he was a walk-up start, and also applying the 'they are so bloody good at breaking open games that we'll stick them in if they've played most of the season' measure that gets applied to Danger and Fyfe, he is a triple walk-up start.

I cannot emphasise the word 'objective' enough here. Most of AA selections are, as you say, subjective opinion, but some can be defended objectively, stats, expert analysis, by any objective analysis, Dusty was in. In and lying on the sun lounger beside the pool sipping a margerita.

i thought the 3 named would probably be the only 3 to get in, but Bolton must have had a strong claim when Butters makes it (would have made a bigger farce of the U22 team tho) and Short should have had a look in when Byrne-Jones is named.

As for the rest, probably the reality is we win week in week out playing strong team football. Yes DUsty is the best footballer in the world, but there are games he doesnt impact cos he doesnt need to.
Dangerfield on the other hand racks up disposals most weeks (except when it really counts.) Guys like Stewart and Menegola play strong football week in week out (again until it really counts.)

In the end, who really cares- probably helps keep a few salaries a bit lower when they miss out on AA bonuses, which will help offset the premiership bonuses we keep paying.

Ever since you dug up that post about game style you seem to be making much more sense.

I just read an article on fox sports where it was predicted Maynard from Collingwood would make it and Grimes wouldn’t.

Am I missing something. Seriously Maynard ahead of Grimes ?:rotfl1

Dylan is close to being the premier defender in the game

Yeh, would be a shock.

And if Daniel gets a gig in front of Grimes or Vlas I'll be disappointed.

BTW how the *smile* did Pendlebury get selected?

Who would you say has been our best player this year? Not best relative to their capacity, but best player/most influential on results?

He's the best Richmond player most of us have seen and has a measly three AA's. It's a disgrace.

100% agree sin, I too am missing something.. BUT, beaker and the cookie monster discussed the AA defenders last night from the squad and Dylan didn't make the shortlist, Maynard did, and on the AFL site the journos had a collective stab at the side, only Dusty in for us. Maynard and Moore get guernseys. Don't know their arse from their elbow.

I'm a fan of Moore, but I reckon both Vlastuin and Grimesy have been better this season, but Maynard? I'm taking crazy pills again.

Maynard was terrific for two-thirds of the year but had a few ordinary games in the run home as the team's form faltered. I wouldn't be aghast to see him in, and if you line he and Haynes up against Vlastuin statistically, our bloke has no chance.
Ridiculous as this may sound. ... I would love us to win the flag with ZERO AA representation this year....

I've come around to this point of view. Let's have none and stick it up their arses on Grand Final day. They've spent four years watching us and still don't understand.

"Pressure."

"Chaos."

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Maynard over Vlastuin? I take your point, over Grimes? Ludicrous!

On 74's point, I agree its got huge us v them cache, but surely we can expose and discuss the farce amongst ourselves in a safe environment? :cupgold :vomit

They're gonna do what they're gonna do. If Dusty retired tomorrow he's have fewer AA's than Nathan Burke and Simon Goodwin - very good players but not ball-tearing, arse-rending matchwinners like Dusty. KB wanted to string him up for something he didn't do, so who knows what goes on at selection?

Stuff 'em.

Ridiculous that if their careers ended today, Dangerfield would have 7 AAs and Dusty would have 3.

Dusty's career pre-2017 was criminally underrated, as was his season last year.

Dustin Martin's career (I know some of these seasons include finals but I don't have a breakdown to exclude them):

2010: 21 games, 11 goals, 20.2 disposals ave
2011: 22 games, 33 goals, 22.1 disposals ave
2012: 20 games, 23 goals, 22.4 disposals ave
2013: 23 games, 23 goals, 24.2 disposals ave
2014: 22 games, 27 goals, 24.3 disposals ave
2015: 23 games, 24 goals, 25.9 disposals ave
2016: 22 games, 9 goals, 31.1 disposals ave (AA)
2017: 25 games, 37 goals, 29.8 disposals ave (AA)
2018: 23 games, 31 goals, 25.3 disposals ave (AA)
2019: 23 games, 32 goals, 26.1 disposals ave
2020: 16 games, 15 goals, 20.5 disposals ave (shorter games obviously)

As a mid-forward, he really should have received AA selection in more than just 3 seasons. Can almost guarantee if another player had these sort of stats they would be an AA lock.

Yeah, but Dustin has 2 premiership medals, and 2 Norm Smith medals, with the distinct possibility of a 3rd of each this year.
Everything I've seen, indicates he values team success much more than personal accolades.

Yep. And who cares who was AA five years ago. But people remember premierships and Norm Smiths.

It is worth reading the reasons why Jake Niall gave Dusty top votes in the North Smith in 2017. He has to be assessed against everyone else, not himself. Not sure that is always the case.

FWIW, i think they will pick him this and he will be on the interchange - they just can't aafford the emabarrassment of last year when they didn't pick him.

Interesting - I would argue Dusty has had a better year than Danger, but you can guarantee Danger will be in the side tomorrow night. Will be interesting to see.

Dusty's big problem with AA selection is that he is a big game player and does it in the biggest game of the year. Of course, this is after the AA selection each season.

During the season he gets compared with players like Dangerfield, but he leaves them for dead come finals time.

I certainly know who I think is the more valuable player and more deserving of an AA gurnsey. The guy with 2 Norm Smiths and two premiership medallions hanging around his neck.

The proof is looking at Dangerfield. I reckon Dangerfield would swap every AA jumper and his Brownlow just to play in a grandfinal. But the problem is the Cats rely on him getting them there, and he simply doesn't perform when needed.
