Tiger AAs 2020

Yeah, I did find it very interesting that we were comparable to other premiers in terms of AA representation during this period.

On face value I thought we had been a bit hard done by - so perhaps it was just my memory of Geelong dominating the team during the years they had won it.

My only gripe with the AA teams is that Dusty has only made it 3 times. I find that incredible given his consistency over a number of years, as well as averaging at (or more) than a goal a game most seasons as a midfielder. His career deserves to finish with hopefully 6-7 AAs by the time he is done to consolidate how significant his career has been. I think he is sometimes rated a bit harshly when compared to his own lofty standards.
It was the farce to end all farces when he missed selection last year. Yet Clangerfield and his brothers Stagerfield and Diverfield have been selected 7 times.

Farce.

We always tend to overrate our own players, because we watch them every week and we love them of course, so sometimes hard to judge comparisons.

Of course, this season we are clearly the best team, all our players are the best and everyone else is *smile* as

Reputations aren’t made by AA selections.

They are made in big games and most importantly finals.

I agree. Personally, as a fan though, I would also like this acknowledgement for him as well.

Im certain Dusty wouldnt care less about it either way.

I usually try to come up with a logical, objective analysis of things, But with the AA side, its futile. So many layers of inconsistently and randomly applied measures: objective data on the one hand, and weird idiosyncratic footy unwritten rules and playing favourites on the other, all chucked into a blender while the panel get pissed it seems.

Dusty missing AA last year was objectively the dumbest decision in footy awards ever. Yes it was the farce to end all farces.

Some interesting views with a good case coming through for the ongoing theme of excessive nomination of Geesook players. I wonder if this reflects the plausible, parallel argument of how their supporters also seem unduly high in representation among AFL media too?
Not to mention in high AFL office too perhaps?

But overall, I have decided I really just do not care that much about any AFL awards. Why should I when I have lots of ambivalence to the whole way the organisation operates, in so many respects.

The only award that really matters is premiership teams - that's the greatest achievement, the one lasting indicator/value of success that is indisputable to the players. (How many times have we read of even great players saying they would trade any individual award(s) for one premiership medal? Consider Richo as one example)

But perhaps many players do individually appreciate the recognition of AA, if they never win a flag. I feel for those who miss out unjustifiably, while some don't seem to really earn it.
Anyway, it's just a squad so far.

Reading between the lines I’m certain Vlaustin is in
Mince Whateley is an AFL mouthpiece and often seems to have the inside word. If what he thinks is right then Vlastuin and Dusty are in but Grimes misses.

He also reckons Stagerfield will be captaino_O

i thought the 3 named would probably be the only 3 to get in, but Bolton must have had a strong claim when Butters makes it (would have made a bigger farce of the U22 team tho) and Short should have had a look in when Byrne-Jones is named.

As for the rest, probably the reality is we win week in week out playing strong team football. Yes DUsty is the best footballer in the world, but there are games he doesnt impact cos he doesnt need to.
Dangerfield on the other hand racks up disposals most weeks (except when it really counts.) Guys like Stewart and Menegola play strong football week in week out (again until it really counts.)

In the end, who really cares- probably helps keep a few salaries a bit lower when they miss out on AA bonuses, which will help offset the premiership bonuses we keep paying.
