Thoroughbred racing

Heavy track is going to make it a slog in the Derby. Cheval Savant caught my eye at the Valley last start, have had a silly little each way bet on him.

Impressive win by Magic Time in the last. Got me back from a mauling; still lost on the day :( But had a big day last week so that's punting.

Begg is a very good trainer.

I’m Thunderstruck tragically euthanised during the week. Bizarre circumstances that nobody is sure about. Simple fetlock operation that went well then the horse became critically lame days after - fractures in the knee.

They think the horse did it to itself trying to get up or something ?

Just shows how fragile these animals are. 500kg on skinny spindles.

So punters, I was so taken with White Marlin’s win on Saturday I’ve decided to use all my bonus bets accumulated in April to back it to win the Melbourne Cup.

Horse looks like a freak to my eye.

I know there’s a lot to play out in the next 6 months, but interested to know the opinions of all you astute punters?

Whats your early pick in early markets?

There are a couple of NZ fillies (mares in the spring) who will have something to say about that. Prowess and Legarto.

White Marlin does look a freak. To run away from Right You Are, who has been in great form, like he did was very impressive.

The changing of the guard in the sprinting ranks is exciting to see. Between them I Wish I Win and Giga Kick look to have the big sprints at their mercy. I'm happy to stick with the Savabeel horse; reckon he is a freak as well. The Quokka was a great race and finish and the first four across the line are all very good. But reckon they are a couple of rungs below the top two.

Geez Giga Kick put the hammer down yesterday. Just creamed them with a “let’s go” charge from about 700m out. Took off like a bullet around them all, and never looked like getting beaten.

Great little horse.

I backed him in the TJ and stuck with him again yesterday, a great horse indeed.

Agree Riddles, though I am looking forward to Amelia’s Jewel coming to the East coast eventually. I’ve been on her bandwagon since day 1, and reckon she could measure up in group 1 company.

Having said that I reckon her best will be seen in the middle distance races. She may even stretch out to 2000m.

Yes Mops Amelia's Jewel will measure up to Group 1 company in the East; no doubt. The horses she finished with in the Quokka, Overpass, Bella Nipotina and Asfoora are all G1 horses. That said, IMHO they are a couple of rungs below I Wish I Win and Giga Kick. She will be competitive in anything from 1200m to 1600m; maybe out to 2000m as you say. But can't see her beating the other two at 1400m or less. The Golden Eagle over 1500m between her and Giga Kick will be a great race though.

The run of the race in the Quokka was Asfoora. Had to work very hard from a wide barrier to sit outside the leader and was still punching on the line. Very unlucky. Reckon she wins that race if she draws barrier 8 or better.

Any racing nuffies out there - Dan O'Sullivan's wrap each week is great reading.

There are a lot of ratings guys out there, but this guy has proven himself to be the number 1 ILO.

On that, get involved on https://www.wolfden.bet/ or the App.

A few pro punters (including Dan) got together and launched it a few months back.

Basically a Twitter like hub purely for punters. They also have some ripper interviews on youtube:

Check out the one with Leysy's trainer Mitch Beer or any of the "Day in the Life of" with camera's rolling as they punt on a Saturday.

Kingsley Bartholemew bahaha!

Great viewing for racing nuffies.

Ratings are largely revisionist nonsense.

Agree. Dan's are the most accurate and have great nuggets though.

Especially when he outlines what a horse is capable of at a particular race i.e. Vilani in the Stradbroke.

And that Dubai Honour is a great bet at $6 to win in Hong Kong.

Or Amelia's Jewel won't be at her best until 1600+
