My knees are beginning to knock as my turn grows close, Rosy.

If you need any help Blood I'm happy to lend you my lucky pin to stick in the form guide. It's just a little bit rusty. :hihi

I had 3 horses in mind today from a limited glance at the paper.  As I told you this morning Jungle Ruler, and Shocking were the other two.  JR bombed out.  Shocking won but was a bit too short for me.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

You did really well, Rosy. I whispered to my wife "She's won!" as Ladies In Luck approached the winning post, but Phaze Action was just too strong. Incidentally, I tipped Phaze Action to win last week, but left him out yesterday. Ho hum!

$5 win Feline Flyer
$5 win Augusta Proud

Went shocking.....like most of my tips at the moment. Having a bad run. Thought yours was home Rosy. Good luck to those up next week. :clap

p.s. My brother just e-mailed me something about this top punter competition. Don't know much about it, but I think there are some pretty decent prizes, so I thought someone here might also be interested. Apparently it's free to enter. http://www.australiastoppunter.com.au/

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Takeover Target and Pompeii Ruler go around in Singapore over the next 90 mins for those with Sky/TVN. They face some tough competition (Rocket Man/Presvis), but it will be interesting to see how they go.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Yeah there both up against world class horses jimbler. Especially the Avatar against Previs.

Pompeii will run his usual top honest race though. Leysy loves the old fella!!!!!

Just a bloody shame betfair arent allowed to field on it :(

gotta head to paddy power to get the odds of 8/1.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Need some help from punters in the know.

At work I'm pitching on a gig to help promote an online betting agency. Although I have dabbled a little in online punting (I have one account that I use say 4 times a year) - I'm no expert in the game.

I would really appreciate any feedback on your online punting habits. Things like;

How many online accounts do you have?
Are you happy with your current account, what could they do better?
What would make you open another account?
Do all these $150 free bet offers make you want to?
What would stop you from opening another one?
Is it all just about the odds

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Rosy - I hope this OK but delete if you dont think its appropriate here ???

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Hi Mavs, good question.

One thing that annoys me about the TAB site is that it doesn't refresh from the prices at the jump to the results. You have to do it yourself. it's obviously no big deal, but why doesn't it do it?

Otherwise I really like the TAB site.

The free bets are a real scam and I don't think many people read the fine print properly.

I think it would be better if you could deposit money using your savings account rather than your credit card and the fees are a rip off. Perhaps a lower minimum would be better too. Not everyone wants to put in 50.

No issues with it mav as long as it's not soliciting for business. I've knocked back offers to be paid to put betting agency links on PRE, one as recently as yesterday actually. General discussion is fine.

How many online accounts do you have?

One

Are you happy with your current account, what could they do better?

It's ok. It's all I know.

What would make you open another account?

I doubt I would bother. Don't really bet much or take it seriously.

Do all these $150 free bet offers make you want to?

No. I was asked to offer them to PREnders from one company. I don't think they're what they're cracked up to be and have a few hidden traps/clauses.

What would stop you from opening another one?

Lack of need or interest. Might consider an offer too good to refuse that is actually too good to refuse.

Is it all just about the odds

Not for me. I don't compare.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

How many online accounts do you have? 4 or 5
Are you happy with your current account, what could they do better?
- Give better odds
- Tab Sportsbet fails often in peak times (the other corporates are generally pretty good),
- Account/balance sheets need to be easier to read and would be great if you could have options as to what they show.
- Brownlow betting and other AFL betting products should not be suspended during a round, Betfair are great in this regard as their markets never close.
- If you win too often at a particular sport or medium, most will restrict your betting maximums on that medium (bastards).
- Some, mainly overseas based agencies make it difficult to withdraw funds some even charging a fee. Would be good if you could withdraw into credit card accounts but I think it is against current legislation.

What would make you open another account? Would need to be a great introductory offer
Do all these $150 free bet offers make you want to? As Rosy points out those offers are usually not as good as they are advertised and are only a minor incentive
What would stop you from opening another one? I already have too many, very hard to hide them all from mrs jb
Is it all just about the odds? Mainly yes, if you keep punting, in the long run a minor percentage advantage can be significant. Variety of product and the quality of the "help" service are also important.
Any feedback appreciated.

PM me if you have any other questions and ignore any subsquent smartarse posts from Redford (and leysy days).

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

How many online accounts do you have?

Around 10 at a guess, but I really only use Betfair.

Are you happy with your current account, what could they do better?

I've been with Betfair for about 3 years and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The withdrawals/bank transfers are almost always in my bank account the next day, and there is no limit on what you can bet. Have had some problems with other sites limiting the amount I can bet after winning there regularly.

The only problem with Betfair is the occasional lack of liquidity in Australian sporting events/horse racing and there aren't many special offers/bonuses like on other betting sites.

What would make you open another account?

Incredible odds and in-play "internet" betting on sporting events. The 2nd part is illegal in Australia, so I'd probably settle for just incredible odds. :fing32

Do all these $150 free bet offers make you want to?

Not really. I'd be more interested in them consistently offering better odds than anywhere else.

What would stop you from opening another one?

Nothing really

Is it all just about the odds

Pretty much, but prompt customer service, quick withdrawal times and a decent user interface are also important to me.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Rosy, after trying to work out all the details given, I'm darn glad I never took up betting and don't have a TAB account or any other. Too complicated for old me!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Thanks Play Centre, Rosy, JB & Jimbler for the excellent feedback - really appreciated. Be great to get any other opinions as well.

Maverck - for me it is all about the odds - getting an edge in the odds over a calander year for me can be the difference between a good year and a great year.

The TAB is a rip off
The on-line bookies fixed prices can provide better odds
Those on-line bookies that provide better odds than the three TABS are good and over a period of time most helpful to incresing returns
Betfair - I have not had the time to examine the benfits of this - but once I slow down my work I will make an assessment as to how my punting may benefit.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

PRE PUNTERS CLUB

The lady is in luck - and a tad stiff too - Rosy our reigning champion's pick for last week feel just short of picking up the winning chocolates - but the eachway bet she had puts her in the Champions chair.

currently the punters club owes PRE-Admin $5.70 - will add this to winnings from this week then remit the total

Therefore this week we have a carryover Champion & a new Challenger.

Champion in the red corner - rosy23
Challenger in the blue corner - Dyer'ere

This is the match race we have been waiting for - two great champs slogging it out all the way from the 800 metre mark to the winning post - the scribes will be writing about this one for years to come.........

PRE PUNTER OF THE YEAR 2009

The 2009 rules are -

1) Each Saturday we will have two (2) tipsters - one will be considered the champion the other the challenger.

2) Both the Champion and the Challenger will have $10 each to bet with and are allowed only 1 or 2 horses each Saturday to bet on eg. $10 Win on a horse or $10 Place on a horse or $5 win on 2 horses or $5 place on 2 horses or $5 x $5 on 1 horse;

3) Should your total collect be more than the total collect of your tipster opponent on the day you become the champion and you will be challenged the following Saturday by the next tipster on the list. Should both the Champion and the Challenger not gain a collect the next 2 tipsters on the list will become the champion and challenger for the following Saturday. (with the tipster who is the next in order becoming the champion and the challenger being the tipster next after him/her)

4) Selections can be at any Saturday metropolitan meeting in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide. (On weekends where there are Group races on the Monday or Sunday as well as or instead of the Saturday racing the PRE Punters in the chair can forgo the Saturday racing and bet on the Monday or Sunday). Please post your selections on this thread by 11.00am on the day of the races so it gives me time to find them and put them on.

5) All profits on your $10 bet (no matter how small) will be posted to Rosy's bank account to help with the admin costs of PRE

6) All bets are put on Remote Tigers Darwin Bookie IASbet.com hence there is no outlay by other members of the Punting Club.

7) A total of collects for each member will be maintained by Remote Tiger and the member with the largest total of collects by the last day of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival will be announced the PRE Punter of the year, 2009.

The order of betting for 2009 is -

1. Blood17 - return 0
2. mk33 - return 0
3. Red Sea Tiger - return 0
4. jb03 - return 0
5. Tiger44 - Return $27.40
6. Scottyturnerscurse - return 0
7. the claw - return 0
8. Hartbalm - return 0
9. Leysy Days - return 0
10. jimbler - return 0
11. Rosy - return $15.57 - Champion
12. Dyer'ere - Challenger
13. Remote Tiger

Due to two tipsters betting each weekend (Champion and Challenger) we all should get more than two turns at tipping during the winter footy season and spring racing carnival.

IASbet.com provides for - a Superprice dividend guaranteed to be better than 2 of the three TABs and is generally better than all three or a fixed price or in some races Top Fluctuations. When you put your tips on PRE please advise which of the 3 betting types above you want (Superprice or Fixed Price or Top Fluctuation) Please note if betting for a place Superprice is the only option available. IT MAYBE THE DIFFERENCE IN YOU BECOMING NEXT WEEKS CHAMPION.

Thanks Remote. I hadn't read the rules properly and am surprised I get another guernsey when I didn't cover your costs. Still I'm happy to have a crack at it again. I don't have a paper to check the form or tips and I have to go out now so I've checked the TAB site for the fields.

Without knowing the odds I'll have $5ew Caulfield R 4 # 1 Brazen Hussey please.

If she's too short feel free to change to $5ew R 3 # 2 Donna Rossa.

It's hard not knowing the tips or odds so if they are both hot favourites I'll have $10 for the win instead even though I never bet for a win.

As for the kind of bet I don't know what top fluctuation is really. I'll stick with whatever you used last week for me thanks. Superprice?

Apologies for the confusion Remote. I won't be near a computer this morning but feel free to send an SMS if you don't wish to make an executive decision for me or you need clarification.

Thank you for your generosity. Good luck everybody, especially Dyer for the Punters Club.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

PRE PUNTERS CLUB

Anybody who has Dyer'ere's mobile - flick him an sms to tell him he is our challenger this week......

Rosy - $5x$5 on Brazen Hussey is on - I have to ask - did you select this horse beause of the name which brought back memories of your teenage years? :-*

Better luck next week fellas. :)

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

How much do we reckon we could scrape together for leysy's favourite yet heart breaking mare.

Passed on for $110,000 after not reaching his reserve of $130,000 at the Inglis sales

http://www.inglis.com.au/makeOffer/?sale=09EAY&lot=40

Might have to put a straight six on this weekend. ;D
