Agree. Entitled to be favourite with the Huss IMO. In excellent nick. Top class galloper. Not a fan of Princess Coup. Prefer Sirmione... refer to demoliton of Samantha Miss in the Aus Cup. I'm aware of the knock on the horse on tight turning tracks... but thought his run in the Feehan was excellent.

Princess Coup. :-[

Forensics was slaughtered by McEvoy. Think she's the best mare going around. Unfortunately the 4-1 on offer on the weekend is probably the best price we will see about her this prep.

Is it possible to have feature doubles on betfair? I just chucked $10 on Littorio for the CC and Pompeii for the Cox Plate with those criminals at the tab and only got $36. Robbery.

Unfortunately my spec on Pompeii in the CC appears to be wasted. Price changed his tune after Saturday and said he was angling at a Cox Plate run. Probably fair enough.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

First, where do I get $11.50 about Forensics in anything against mares? Any distance. Any weight. Any track. Three classes above them. Just not a fair fight. Even with McEvoy up. Nah. That's going overboard. What a Sydney millionaire he turned out. He has one of those little fairy lights plugged into his bedroom wall plug to remind him of how to ride in Australia.

Okay, Turnbull Stakes day. The easy thing to do is to throw all the form out. That IMO would be a grave error.

Pompeii Ruler shot to the front in the Cox Plate a couple years back then stopped as if shot. Very weak run but sure, he was not seasoned.

He won the Aust Cup, a race that is put on for horses that can't get 7f every other year. Then, in the Underwood he had every chance, died in the arse in the final 50m but sure, he needed the run.

The Turnbull Stakes was put on for him. Couldn't have had it any easier and when the heat was on he wilted. This horse is an excuse machine. That's three out of four. Make excuses for the success. Not the failures. Soft as butter. That's why Price wants him ridden cold. BTW that's the way to ride Bel Mer. Can Price get any steel in them? And prior to the conclusive proof (on the weekend) that PR is a pom Price was going to run him in the CC. WTF? The Huss was going to get the stitch coming off the CC, why not save PR for the Plate? That would be the smart move.

If you're smart for a trainer you're still dumb by community standards. Jockey's fleece trainers at cards. And chess. And seances. "Your horse is talking to me, Mick. It was dead today. I'm channeling, yada yada. Give me five grand or I'll invite the stewards to the next salon."

That's not to say that he can't win the Plate. But if he does they're all mongrels. Sub El Segundo class.

Zarita. If ever anybody doubted racing axiom #8523 - there is no such thing as a bad barrier only a bad jockey - just check out her possies from #5 and #12 respectively at her past two runs. Three wide all the way from 5 and leader's back from 12. It's just not that hard.

Maybe she had a bad day. Or maybe she's another one of the two hundred precocious 3yos from last season that just can't gallop.

Which brings me to Weekend Hussler. Pace. Weight pull. The bizarre SWP conditions. These are all factors. But don't overlook this - The Huss went like a busted arse. Blood rightly reminds us that they're not machines. Maybe he means that they can fail inexplicably (and he might be right). But maybe he means that you can't just race em week in and out and expect them to keep on coming.

One small fact is clear from the Huss's preps so far. He's not a big unit and he's not seasoned. I don't think he can take the racing and if I had to make a big call right now it would be this - he won't beat one home again in 2008.

I don't want to bag the Huss. He has always reminded me of one horse - Rubiton. All racehorse, very versatile and fully international class. The jury is in on him. Rubiton.

BTW Littorio is a non winner that has found the line. Look out.

On Lloyd, he is a panic merchant Anglophile. OMG there's a pom around. All bow. Fantasises about the Queen of England. It's the only thing that almost gets him chubby. Remember him declaring Tawqeet the greatest certainty of all time in the Melbourne Cup? Beaten 32 on the day. Lloyd? NFI.

To the programme in general, as usual at this stage of the spring, there was no speed in any race. The fastest race was put on for the leaders and others were farcically run. No surprises there.

On the axia of racing, remember Bart's words - You need a good miler to win the Caulfield Cup. History has shown that if anything the ability to run a mile and a half is a disadvantage to winning it. (It's crucial to your place prospects.)

And The Cat is back late in the spring to take out the sprinting garbage. Won't have much trouble with El Cambio.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

*smile* Oath jack, thats a spray. Is there anything running aorund you actually rate this spring. ;D

On PR, the horse has just had 18 months off racing. Dont underestimate it & the fitness issues. Not many come back even competitively.

On his Cox plate 3rd at his 7th start. Not sure on the weak run. Did you see when Froggie got nervous & went. At the 600. Crazy.

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=JwHfggq1eGI

To the race itself, the first 3 were 10th, 13th & 12th at the 1000m respectively. They ran on. PR settled where he has been his last two. 5th.

& if, sorry when ;D, PR wins the Plate this year leysy requests a full apology to the horse, leysy & connections. Leysy's knows its in ya. ;D

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

The cox plate s overrated. The real news is that snake's old man's horse Our Super El, Gypsy will remember the dam Elenula, won over 2050 at Murtoa last sat. It was the horse's last chance saloon after spending some time at the racehorse shrink's place to try and get him to come out of the starting gates right way up. which seems to have worked. Jockey asked the question 200 out and he answered with ease. Owners hope to win a city race with this self bred no-budget racehorse. You just never know

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Wouldn't go bagging Princess Coup just yet. If i had the choice between her and PR i know which way i'd go. Watch the Yalumba this week if PR doesn't run in the first three barring extreme circumstances his spring should be scrapped. He's not the same horse from 18 months ago that's for sure. As for a tip for the weekend I like Flash Coupe in the 2nd has had two runs back might be ready to fire. Good luck to all.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Big news for us betfairians with word coming thru that we can now bet "In-Running" on selected races starting this week.

This type of betting is massive in the UK & could even see jb03 being able to snare a winner now he can back a horse halfway up the finishing straight.

Can it work? Because in play betting via the internet is banned in Australia?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Yep, The govt only banned sports, not horse racing.

Hopefully the liquidity is OK.

What too watch? Foxtel is on a second or so delay. Critical in that form of betting. Internet too slow. Radio tells you nothing.

Looking forward though to all the $1.01 shots getting rolled.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Anyone else got a Herald Sun Super Stable going?

http://superstable.heraldsun.com.au/

There is the link.

Pick ya 10 horses and 2 trades are allowed at each trade period.

Yeah, mainly to have a squiz at. Though a second or so isnt gunna make much diff to your bet up to say the 800m mark. Say for 2000m races u can see how a horse settles & the pace of the race etc. Good fun.

Reckon u could make some cash with a high speed connection at the track for bets up the straight as well.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

OK Remote, here goes:

Lord Tavistock in the Guineas, $10 win
Olalana Race 8 No. 7 $10 win

Emergency: Gamble Me in the Schillaci.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Bear is a new addition to the john o'shea stable, and i can tell u that olonah is absoultely flying, i will be strapping i have no fear, who is also an each way chance, just missed the third leg of the quaddie, on michelle payne and her bad riding, she also fell off the odds on fav in the first leg of quad, so they might be after her head, i new is was in trouble when i didnt have Nikita Beriman in, and the best horse in the race was ridden by the Female Jock who one the first leg of the quaddie, she was never gonna ride 2 winners, she had him last ten lengths of them on the turn, so really i am spewing first leg paid $25, 2nd leg $2.2, missed the 3rd and had Divine Rebel and Hidden Wonder in the last, so hope they dont win.

Like Von Costa in the Guineas, strapped him in the golden slipper unlucky and would be happy to see him win a G1,

Like Bon Hoffa in toorak, and also Molotov he has no weight (53 i think) G. Boss G1 king, and is a second up specialist, is currently at $40-1, Very good run in Futurity when 4th to Niconero Cargo Cult and Miss Finland,

got a bit of whisper for Haka in race 1 tommorrow.

Good luck Punters and good night, i have to get up a 3 am

Bear xoxo

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Like Carnero and Duporth in guineas.
Pompeii should win easily
Maybe better is classes below what it has been racing
Like Bel Mer
Hopefuly Lucky Secret can win

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Scoops on the following, sitting out race 3,4.

R1 ECLAIR FANTASTIC
R2 GUILD
R5 GUILLOTINE
R6 BON HOFFA, ORANGE COUNTY, ALAMOSA, PILLAR OF HERCULES BOXED.
R7 GOGOCANNY
R9 BEL MER

Will chuck a few more in as we go for the quaddie but that's the plan. Giddy up.

Can't add much more than that, other than he has a better record at Caulfield than the form guide may suggest. His two best runs in his career IMO... were at G1 WFA level in the Futurity and Underwood Stakes when 4th(behind Niconero) and 3rd (behind El SEgundo) respectively. Probably the best outsider for the day. Could make a case for Arbitration in the second as well. Another horse at great value.

Winning Edge shouldn't be a ballot free race this year. Ridiculous that only 8 horses accepted. Embarrassing. If Zavite can't win that, shoot him.

Pompeii should *smile* the Yalumba in. Would be hilarious if The Camel rolled him in the race again. Mind you, that's why Pompeii started the good price in the Cox Plate last time... Price only cares about the one race.

Think Kaphero is the fastest horse in the country ATM. While that is a bit of a worry, he should be able to account for these. The money is big for Lucky Secret though. Can't help but think about Kaphero's 4.5L annihilation of him in the McEwan albeit at Kaphero's specialist course.

Like the Punter's club pick in Lord Tavistock (Good luck, HB)... but Froggy is a real problem. Surely he can't *smile* it up like his other two defeats this preparation at Caulfield when he had the horse 8 deep from the 600 onwards. In both those defeats Fernandina was most impressive. Only an interest in that race. *smile* hard work.

Inclined to think Bel Mer is a certainty (each way odds if you can believe that), except we've got Froggy on. He is a real liability. But this chick races against the blokes and beats them, whereas equal favourite Benatar races strictly against the girls, and still struggles to win. Tranq Base on her last chance as a little spec, as my profits on her slowly diminish with each start.

Good scoop for Haka in the first.

Good luck all.
