Thomson Dow

I hope you're right and there's "something" up. Just completely off the pace this we week.

Was he "over aroused" given it was Dimma and he wanted to prove a point and got paralysed by his own expectations? 5th year, time running out. Has demonstrated better before. He can't afford to be thought of as one of those guys who only gets desperate when he's about to get delisted.
It was quite possibly his worst game at the level , same could be said for TT give him another shot

I just can’t believe how bad our reactions are in the cbd , ffs Sam won most of the hit outs so it’s not like Witt’s was palming Down the throat of Rowell , our blokes looked like they’re on Valium

Dow was very good through the pre-season and practise matches.

What went wrong?
In the practice matches he was hunting the ball.
He was getting to contests and using good handballs and providing run and creating.

Against the Suns he was standing on the outside of contests waiting to receive.

He plays his best football in tight.
He just needs to concentrate on getting to contests and getting his hands on the footy.

So why the change?

Instructions??? Scared to get in the middle of it all???

That's a good question. He was generally stationary against the Sun's. He wasn't on his own but he was probably the worst at it Saturday. Play like that and you simply cannot stay in the side. He has to fix these behaviours.

Haha
He needs to learn.
Give him an extended spell in the seniors.
Not like we are playing for a top 4 spot.
He learns more in the seniors.
Reckon a few need to take a chill pill on where we are at.
Some pain now for long term gain.
We have been blessed but now the hard work begins again.

Dow won't be a part of the next flag. 5 to 7 years. So why give him games?

His pre season warrants games.
He wasn't alone on Saturday.
If Yze throws his plans out after 4 quarters than we have problems.

Cut your losses, he was made to look stupid against a REAL 2024 midfielder.
Dow cannot play another position.
Too slow for the wing and poor kick for Half back

Good summary. Very disappointing.
Instead of hunting the footy like he did in the trial games, he just seemed so reactionary. I honestly wonder what was going through his head? Was he given a defensive role?
He just looked all at sea. Flat footed at most stoppages & his opponent (Rowell especially) bounced off him at will. It was a very poor game but unless he’s got his papers stamped I’d probably give him another game to see if he can make amends.
It really did look like a lack of confidence. Unfortunately I think his fellow mids started to lose confidence in him too. Is it terminal? Maybe. We will find out soon enough..

Happy yo give him a coupla more games but I feel I’ve seen this movie before.

Had high hopes after his preseason form but you can't give him a game this week after that effort.

I can only assume he was overawed and just resorted to ball watching which is my knock on him when he was first drafted. Im still unconvinced

He has no hard physical presence and in the practice matches no one put body pressure on him, if he is bodied off the ball no way he can come back with a tackle or bump to retrieve the situation. He is at his best when he has the ball but will be useless trying to contest with a Cripps. ps young Wilson in the VFL is the prototype we need a younger Prestia.

I understand that Dow is not a midfield bull, he doesn't have the size for that. My question is can he grab the ball and be evasive rather than trying to gain possession through strength?

DS

Getting the feeling he’s saving himself for the big games.
Expecting a real hum dinger of game against Carltoon
