Thomson Dow

And that’s a massive issue. We need elite ball users, not average ones. Ross is the same - poor kicking skills.
We drafted for 5 years for a certain type of player that was successful to our game plan before the AFL went & changed the rules on us.
Chaos was replaced by precision, that hasn't helped our list one iota.

Surprised there are some doubters on Dow. Thought he did well for a bloke with such little experience.

Probably won't be an A grade but looking like a certain B grader which we need plenty of

Is good at first possession and dishing it out but not convinced he is a run and link player. Doesn't seem to be a line breaker. Stays for now though.

Further to my last post I checked the stat's.

23 disposals, 7 clearances and 5 tackles. Cant see how we could possibly expect any more from a bloke with his experience

Prestia/Martin's absence aside, indictment on the engine room when Dow is leading the way. Good signs, hope to see some progress with other youth soon.

Developing nicely. Looks noticeably stronger this season.

The 2019 AFL draft was pretty ordinary after Cody Weightman at pick 15. I think we did well to get Dow at pick 21.

Not a lot of talent picked up after Dow in the draft anyway. The best arguably being:

32. Trent Rivers
30. Harrison Jones
39. Chad Warner
46. Hugo Ralphsmith
22. Devon Robertson

Liking the look of him. Smooth mover in traffic. One of the few positives yesterday.

Another step forward , like to see him take em on more ( I’m sure it will come) with his natural first instinct to handball ,like the idea of Sonsie and Brown working outside him

I think we should take a chance on his brother from the blues

Would depend on cost, but if we could get him for a 3rd (he hasn't shown much more) then he would be worth it. No way the Blues get anywhere near what they paid for him. Had his best year last year but still only averaged 16 touches. Extracts well enough and gets around a 50/50 mix of contested / uncontested possessions, but a 3rd round pick at best I'd think.

Very good at getting first hands on the ball and finding a teammate, usually in a bit of space. High DIMBY, as opposed to Ross who seems to have stoned DIMBY.

We cannot expect to pick up diamonds at every draft but quartz is still useful. Dow is unlikely to be an A grade player but we don't need a team of A graders, just a good mix. For me he is still inexperienced but tracking nicely and will improve further as he gets more game time.

We have found a player.

I can now see that he thinks he belongs. Love the way he goes about it. May he continue to play confident football.

Give him Edwards' midfield minutes and then some. Can play.
