The Weagles and bottoming out.

Perfect example of well run machine of a club 2009-2010.
Identified that the core of the list is long term injured or tired, sent them to the medical rooms.
rejuvenated the list by Bleeding all the worthy talent, worked out which game plan works best in todays football.
did not care about results, worked out well as they topped up on more youngsters by the poor ladder position.
hit the ground running at the trade week, draft.
That all said The Can enjoyed his $3800 collect on the WCE finishing top 4.

And many a can was purchased then consumed to celebrate with. Sounds like you managed a fairly tasty pick up Can man.

Yep straight to dan murphies, 101 slabs to be exact delivered.

good history lesson LTRTR

Looks like Geelong have perfected the big jump up the ladder over that period, as apposed to Richmond who have yet to achieve it

Who will it be for 2012?

Fremantle.

What that stat shows is that every year there's an imposter in the top four, a team that got there by default. We've been that team twice.

Since the current final 8 system started, there have only been two teams outside the top 4 that have made it to a preliminary final. None have made it to the grand final. Bring back the final 4 and play the finals over 3 weeks. Allows an extra H&A round.

The current system gives a huge advantage to the top 4. A team finishing 8th would have to beat 5th and 3 of the top 4 in consecutive weeks without missing a beat. Any of the top 4 only need to win three games to be Premiers. Unfortunately for our friends at Carlton, the odds were stacked against them this year once they missed out on the top 4.

Under the previous, short-lived final 8 system, Adelaide won one of their flags despite finishing outside of the top 4 and losing in the first week of the finals. That system was more of a lottery and gave all of the top 6 a possible double chance.

Shame really about the Blues this year. Hopefully they can take the next step and make top 4 before falling over in straight sets next year.

I nearly suggested a sarcasm smiley until I read your last sentence.

Adelaide in 1998?

It's been mentioned before by a few astute posters but the Jack Darling situation last year could well have been orchestrated by some West Coast officials deliberately spinning some negative press and having a quiet word to him about the benefits of interviewing poorly during the draft camp. In the past the interstate clubs have done a good job with regards to hiding prospective talent and actively discouraging outside interest, in the case of Darling it makes sense given West Coast were the only club who rated Jack as a top 5 talent and according to Emma Quayle, were very close to calling out his name at pick 4.

Think it is on today.

I think you're right. The players have just run on the field so unless they are having very long warmups, or the reserves are back, the game will start soon.

Bulldust. He didn't fake getting his skull fractured in a bar fight.

There were also some stories regarding school excursion sexpoits, besides were you there present at the bar Lennox Lewis? The fact remains Darling went from potential top 5 material to second rounder, it seems to me attitude issues was at the heart of the other clubs reluctance to pick him up. Does it seem improbable to you that a local lad would want to stay close to home and would deliberately put off other interstate clubs? Does it also seem far fetched that West Coast officials would provide some off the record advice which may dissuade potential suitors? If you can recall the Ben Griffiths situation you will find his family refused to answer the door when some of the interstaters came knocking, seems you have your head in the sand if you think there isn't any form of mild draft tampering when it comes to young kids.

He also wanted to go to the GC and play with his mates so not sure if WC did tamper with it.

Interesting BS - I guess if clubs are willing to tank experiment, then utilising counter persuasive tactics to get what they want is really a path of least resistance isn't it?
