The Road to the Big Dance

The evidence doesn't back it up that playing two rucks helps us run out games Carts.

Soldo has missed three games - In those we ran over the top of the Dogs, Beat Adelaide in the second half, whilst Melbourne ground us down without us being blown out (you could argue on class alone)

The big and costly second half wipeouts after leading - Carlton, St Kilda, Sydney then even letting Hawthorn and Essendon back in - All occured with Soldo as second ruck. Co-incidence much?

Leysy does agree a decent second ruck against Melbourne would be ideal and should be considered. But is the bigger risk to us the Dees power running through the middle. Not keeping our guys through the middle as fresh as possible to match that could be equally as risky.

That match-up (along with St Kilda) is certainly up for discussion, but no other teams are running two genuine rucks for us to worry about.

And those two clubs only get by with two rucks because all of them are equally as good forward. The anti-Soldo. Our guys don't have that capability.

We don't have the luxury of playing a guy averaging 60 odd minutes TOG, 7.1 possessions and 2.2 marks a game, when we are getting run over needs to change.

All evidence says getting say Dow in as another runner to make a real difference keeping our midfield/runners fresh all match should be explored.
We had the extra runner against the Swans.

We had one, his name is Mabior and he is killing it.
Killing it? He is 20th in the league for goals/game- behind both our key forwards, while averaging 8 disposals a game.

he is doing well at the Suns, by far career best form, but dont get carried away.

At the rate he is going he is on track to be knocking on the door of 50 goals by the end of the season. 58 won the Coleman last year.

For a bloke who still hasn't played 50 games, he is flying.

He is 25. There are at least 5 KPF younger than him averaging more goals per game.

If he plays every game at this rate he will end up with 46 goals. a good effort, but for a FF who isnt contributing much else it is only a pass because of low expectations.

i dont mean to sound to rough on him, he is doing better than i expected, and he would probably be getting a game ahead of Soldo, but dont get carried away.

Watched most of the game. He did kick 3 in the first half but gee he is still lazy. His attitude doesn't fit the Tiger way. Looks like a perfect fit for Gold Coast though.

We need a ready made tall forward at the Mid Season Draft.

Lynch and Riewoldt are the only options that we have as tall forwards. Balta is best at full-back, which leaves no room for Tarrant in the best team. Soldo and Nank have to both ruck in most games but we can get by with only one of them every now and again. What we are missing is a player who can replace either Riewoldt or Lynch when they are missing. We might be able to make do with Balta as the tall forward but Tarrant does not play like a Richmond tall defender. He does not intercept often enough and he does not position himself to cover two men when needed in the same way that Grimes, Broad and Vlastuin do.

......
Gibcus?

Best young defender in the league.
Could he also be best young forward in the league?
I was not entertaining that idea before friday.
Thought any poster suggesting it was fanciful.
Now hmmm possible.

Tougher when teams are targeting harassing and blocking a young forward.
But as a 3rd mobile tall alongside JR and Big Tom, hmmm possible!

He'd be playing ahead of Soldo ILHO.
Chol?

If so I agree. The perfect 2nd ruck/3rd forward. We dont lose much in terms of leg speed across the ground if Chol was playing as oppose to Soldo.

Chol is becoming a bigger loss than first thought by many on this board.
