The RIP thread

Highway to War by Christopher Koch is another great read about journos in the Vietnam War.
Hey Josey, thanks a mil for sharing that book recommendation. Reviews well in the NYTimes. Didn't realize he wrote 'Year of living dangerously' which I feel compelled to read now having enjoyed the flick so much. The journos of the vietnam/cambodian wars fascinate me. Some other breed of person.

One hit wonder Coolio at 59.
I guess rapping over a Stevie Wonder song counts as a hit for Coolio. I think Stevie might have helped produce Coolio’s version, with the proviso that there be no swearing. And it had a greater reach as a result.

The Weird Al take on the Coolio version is fun:

RIP. If you want to see her in something not like Murder She Wrote watch The Manchurian Candidate, her peformance is eye opening.
Yeah she's known more for that long series, but she also starred in a few well known 1940s films as a teenager.

RIP at 96. Same years as QEII.

I suppose we also say RIP to the 202 people at Bali 20 years ago.

Heard Jason McCartney rejected a lot of media to speak about this. Still hurts him a lot.

I was working inside the Ch 9 newsroom the day the bombing happened & saw the raw camera feed from Bali come through soon after it occurred.
The carnage I saw that day will never leave me. Incredibly distressing.

I was in Singapore at the time. The expat community was hit pretty hard as there was a regional rugby tournament in Bali that weekend. Most SG teams had squads there and Paddy's was the meeting place. There's a dawn service every year with all attendees in club colours.

Can imagine. Every Australian who'd ever been to Bali before this tragedy had near been in the Sari Club having a great time.
Could have been any of us. Way too close to home.

I love Bali, have a place over there and spend as much time as possible there.

Was there a week after the bombings, never seen such a terrifying sight. Can't even imagine the horror of being in it.

You are braver than me TBR, I wouldn't have gone over that quickly.

Had mates that were there and they are still having issues from it. Horror beyond belief. If you know people that were there, give them a call, and check in on them.

And the forgotten part is that the Melbourne Footy Club were there on a footy trip but was at the airport. They had spent the last 10 nights at the Sari club.
