The Grundy Proposition

Melbourne told Grundy that he'd be a ruck, not a forward, when they pitched to him.
Yep the Stan special (which was very poorly done imo) clearly shows the conversations that took place. His agent was pretty sceptical how it would work at first too. Fascinating rear view mirror stuff.

Spot on, I feel for Grundy. Shafted by Collingwood, was ultra-loyal to them gets moved. Melbourne want to ruck him and preserve Max, goes there halfway through the year, story changes. And has handled it all with absolute grace. Hasn't said a bad word. Wherever he goes, I hope he gets a good run.

If we could trade Soldo for a pick between 25-50 and take all of the Grundy Melbourne money and their pick 15 and the Soldo pick back (like the Bowes deal, I'd do it. It's buying back into the first round. Depends on how desperate Dees are to do one of two things;

a) Get rid of Grundy.
b) Get Reid. - I've said on here way before the knuckle head media that the Dees would come for pick one.

Not sure they have the assets to do both. They could move next years picks but the Dees do something every year, trade up, trade for more picks. They are very quickly becoming the wildcard every year.

AA ruckman on a million dollar contract at Colonwood, gets punted out the door and is currently learning to play key forward at magoos level for Smelbourne.
Dunno about anyone else, but I'm smellin large skid marks in the Grundypants. Leave the dirty laundry for someone else to try n scrub clean.

I mean even if they move him on next season they have no option than to play him forward in the ressies and maybe the seniors for the rest of this year.

Grundys mate Jeremy Howe saying how Grundy was recruited as a ruck and was never going to be a forward and how disappointed Grundy would be. Fair to say he’s speaking from Grundy I reckon. And Jake Lever saying “for now he’s a Melbourne man and whatever happens at the end of the season happens”.

So, Geelong or Port for Brodie in 2024?

Or Sydney

I heard on the weekend that AFL backflipped on ability for a play to be paid by >2 clubs. Originally said no but have since said yes. Is that correct?

Melbourne recruiting Grundy when they have Gawn was one of the stranger trades I have seen. Didn't make sense at the time and still doesn't.
Grundy has handled it with a lot of grace imo, not a word from him.
You would have to believe that he will be at Geelong, Port or sydney next season. I can't see us making a play for him even though I rate him very highly. Maybe Hawthorn is another possibility but I suspect it will be a club who think they are in the premiership window.
It is interesting however that his departure hasn't hurt Collingwood. They have survived quite well with a journeyman duo of Cameron and McStay as well Mason Cox.

Would say either are in desperate need and depending on whether he wants to stay in the Melb sorry Geelong bubble or move to PA.

Personally it wasn’t a good look to be chatting with prospective suitors.

You pay a Manager a fee to look after your affairs.

Me, as a team mate, saw and read that, I would find it hard to have him playing in my side.

If Melb gave him the ‘green light’ to talk to other clubs, then that slams the door shut at Melb. If Gawn got injured what would happen then? Back to Grundy?

It’s a mess.

Waiting’s view.

Though at one stage when Gawn suffered the knee injury and Grundy was numero uno, Horne from Champion Data brought up stats, facts, that in the period of Gawns absence he was number one ruck in the league. AA type form.

He is a solo ruckman. Not a forward.

A ruckman who plays like an extra midfielder.

A ruck. That’s it.

yes, slightly different player to Gawn who is commanding overhead around the ground but Grundy is a true follower in the old way of describing it.

Who would want Lever as a spokesperson - he sounds like a right royal cold arse.

That's their achilles heel for finals IMO. Cameron has done a good job during the season but ruckman almost become more important in finals.

Nank only got beaten once that I can recall during our whole finals campaigns from 2017-2020 - and that was being pantsed by Grundy in the 18 prelim. He got a mauling that night.

Gawn/Cameron shapes as a pivotal contest on Thursday.

Yes that is a good point

I fancy the demons on Thursday and Gawn is a big part of that.
