The Blair "Which?" Project

Thanks for the link

If Darcy is bid at 2, then the dogs will need 2,013 points (after discount).
They currently have picks 17 and 75. 75 is worth zero points.
Pick 17 gives them 1044 points - a long way off
If we give them 38,40,44 for 17 it gets them a bit closer - 1,275 points. They gain 231 points from the trade.
Not sure how they make up the difference of about 740 points. Need to trade some players out - Lipinski and others.
Trade out a future pick or 2?
How much can you go into deficit for next year?

If Daicos is bid at 1 - the pies need to match it with 22,36,43,46,48,58. They don't have anything left for Lipinski.

They already traded it to Melbourne as part of a 4 way deal with the Saints and the Crows. They got a very good deal.

Well, the bolded bit was on the money, at least!

I don't think there is anyone of that ilk this draft, or he'd be going top 5.

Dogs reported to have done a deal, trading out 17 and 75 for 23, 44, 45, in a four-way deal. Melbourne training their 2022 first for 17, Adelaide giving up 23 for Melbourne's first, some other shuffling.
Disappointing if so.

We tend to not get involved with pick swap deals or multi club deals.

I don't think any club is keen to see us with another 1st round pick.

Very poor couple of years - pressure is on him. Deliver now or bugger off.

We were the best placed team to get extra early picks and so far nudda, zilch, f all.

If we cannot trade up or out - then we better sharpen the axe - we need to take all our picks at the draft and that means the end for Egg, Garth and a quite a few others.

I can’t see any problem in that approach.

The club has always said it wanted to use this draft to inject some young talent so I am confident they have their eyes on some kids to bring in.

I'd be speaking to Footscray about pick 23 offering up 38 and 42. They would gain 45 points. Even Collingwood would gain 15 points for these picks for their pick 22.

Early picks aren't 7 and 15 and 26 , 28 ? not paying overs for 17 let's wait till draft night.

Makes re signing Martyn for another year so quickly somewhat odd.

There may be one or two also that might be open for trade, or one or two the club would be happy to offer up on the table.

Righto. So.

Many have expressed the opinion we should do whatever it takes to give us the best chance to win another flag while we have Dusty and co. Some argue that's why we should get Tom Mitchell.

Others have mentioned the bloke who footballwise is perfect for us: De Goey.

Mitchell wins contested ball and clearances, yes. Then handballs it backwards or kicks it up and under. Is that going to match or beat Petracca and Oliver exploding out the front of packs? No.

De Goey can. Look at Jake Stringer and Petracca, the two footballers most like him. De Goey has another level to go to. We could have one of him and Dusty on-ball and the other forward at all times.

Collingwood is still in salary cap trouble. I reckon we have wiggle room. It would take two 2022 first-rounders: so, we get 17 from the Dogs - that is a must. Then we target teams that have no 2021 first-rounder, say Carlton once they trade 6 for Cerra, and Melbourne. 15 to Carlton for their 2022 first, 17 to Melbourne for theirs. Now we have three 2022 first-rounders, trade two of them for JDG.

On the proviso we can afford to pay for him and he passes the character test (that's the big question), it would put us right back in the frame for the flag.

The other is Yeo.
If we trade for Degooey its this year. No point waiting around next year and having a crack, we should be very aggressive for the 22 cup.
But we cant get him at that price. Nor would we fit him in.
Pipe dreams

On Degooey and the pies. Him leaving as a free agent would be a win for Collingwood, same as Darcy Moore.
They dont want to trade him, not even for 2 first round picks.

Is the reality that the pies will be stone motherless next year?
Then Moore jumps ship for 900k and 6 years. Goes to Essendon.
And Degooey joins his mate Stevo for 1.2mil and Norf finally get their big fish.
Both band 1 compo.

Pies walk into draft night with picks 1, 2, 3.

I reckon picks 15, 26 and 28 are good picks to have. 4 in the top 30, in what many are saying is an even draft after the top 10 picks means 2-3 good level players should come in.

Let’s see what they produce by the time the Draft comes around. But so far they have been extremely underwhelming. Looks like they lack the ability to wheel and deal at this stage.
I’ll retract this post if they can get 2 top 10 picks though
