The Blair "Which?" Project

So what you’re saying is Pick 3 is not actually worth 2234 points, it’s worth 1875 points in actual value + 359 points of anticipated “bidding value”?

Is the “value“ of pick 3 meant to include this anticipated value of demand for currency outside the normal draftable population?

I mean, the supply doesn’t change. The 3rd pick is still the 3rd pick, even if 2 different population picks are inserted above them. So how else would the value decrease?

I’m struggling to understand how people talk about the external picks (e.g. Father Son / Academy) when they “change” the value of the normal draftable talent pool.

I keep thinking the 10th most desirable talent (of the normal draftable population) is always the same value of pick 10, even if pick 10 is eventually labelled “pick 13” later on. Am I missing something?

Daicos is touted as second best and Darcy as 3rd. They are not being inserted in the top 10. They are in the top 10.

Collingwood and Bulldogs get to jump the queue and push everyone else down

I personally would rate Darcy closer to 10,will take forever.

Did he mention he went to Melb Uni also?

Considering we are in lock down this is impossible - Someone is telling porkies again.

Reckon Pick 17 will be one of the 1st things traded next week.

Having that pick will open up a lot more discussions for us.

Reckon we will have a lot of discussions.

Gold Coast - Pick 3
Adelaide - Pick 4

I wonder what it will end up at.
F/s selections, Hewett compo, any Academy bids?
All of our picks value will end up diluted.
But that goes for all the other clubs. How does that pan out with pick swaps I wonder?
If Collingwood, bulldogs get picks before 38 which they must get some, then it could stay or move forward.

Another way to express my point:

Draft points = casino chips
Draft Pick = exchanging casino chips for cash
Player = the real thing we exchange value for

This isn’t a perfect analogy, but Pick 3 getting pushed back to “Pick 4“ is like cashing your casino chips in for AUD $1 instead of USD $0.75 and losing your option to spend that cash at select locations in Thailand.

In 2001, if WC had the option to bid on Gary Ablett at Pick 3, then:

Pick 1. Hodge
Pick 2. Ball
Pick 3. Geelong bundle points for Ablett
Pick 4. WC: Judd

...and WC haven’t lost draft value. The 3rd available talent is always the 3rd available talent. The “lost value” is just the lost option to make a bid. But if they were never planning to go all-out in Thailand anyway, what does it matter?

It doesn’t make sense to even discuss draft picks being “pushed back”, right? I don’t remember seeing anyone else on here share my view on this, so I feel like I must be missing something.

It was end of 2nd round compensation so our ladder position had no bearing on the pick as I understand it

No it was defo a 2nd. Same result either way, but they could say that we were band 3 as opposed to band 4 which is what Chol is.

We may be at cross purposes. I am talking about the Chol compensation which was end of 2nd, the Ellis compensation was a 2nd rounder but essentially was the same because we won the flag
