The Blair "Which?" Project

At the rate you shut the doors on clubs there would be no teams left in the AFL!
Dont want injury prone hacks from Adelaide.
Just draft a kid and hope he hangs around longer then 3 years
We are the Gold Coast version in Victoria.
Just can't hold onto our kids.

All this talk of 3 first rounders is great and all, but there’s the Richmond factor to take into account.

Doubt Footscray will turbo charge a dynasty team, a direct competitor for silverware in 2022.
You could argue we are doing the same with helping the Dogs.

Blair really needs to get to work now if we still want to be any chance next year. Astbury, CCJ and Chol out the door. We need to at least two replacement talls otherwise the cupboard is completely bare outside of our first choice talls. They don't have to be world beaters but they need to at least be able to play a role if need be whilst any new drafted talls develop.
id rather address that at the draft than bring in a couple of state league bums , we have plenty of experience to allow players to develop in their own time at VFL

If he comes basically for free picks wise it can't hurt especially if we have 3 or 4 quality picks in the draft.

It helps keeps us in the frame for next year but won't cost our future due to giving nothing up for him.

Long time lurker, first time poster :)
If we take Talia as a FA, does that mean that we will not get compensated for losing Chol? I think that is how it works. In effect, Talia may cost us the Chol compensation pick
I believe Talia is delisted. If so it won't affect the compo pick we get for chol

We are in decline. This happens to all successful clubs. The system is designed to ensure it happens. We did it without a gazilion first round picks or free hits at father sons. This is is the bit where we thank the veterans for getting us there year after year and enjoy watching the new crop grow. We are going to lose plenty of games developing them. And we have leaked a few kids and coaches on the way to other clubs. No need to be upset about it. It’s not due to poor recruiting or trading or coaching or admin. For every higgins or ccj who didn’t work out we have 2 late pick premiership players. It’s going to take a lot to get back up but I’m happy to be patient.

The Bulldogs will get Darcy no matter what happens. And they may well be the reigning premier so doubt they would give a stuff what the 12th team are doing if it benefits them. Giving pick 20ish is hardly turbo charging.

I see your point Carter. I also reckon Geelong can package up their 3 picks 30/32/34 (better than our 28/40/44) to get the Bulldogs pick which '*smile*' me b/c they will prob end up with a good hand too. Those idiots at Freo will give away something good for Jordan Clark just to be able to say they can attract players like WC can. Really irks me how their players get overvalued. Didnt they get 27 for Cockatoo?

With any luck there might be more than the Bulldogs wanting picks.
If Port get the Sydney player, they have pick 16 and then nothing until 60. Unless they trade a player, they may need 2nd / 3rd rounders. And they had Shiel do a medical apparently,

If Carlton give away their 1st and 2nd this year for Cerra, they have nothing (prob trade a 2nd next year instead of this year) - I cant see many of their players getting them a 2nd / 3rd pick with trading.

There may be 2 clubs who could compete with us to get the Bulldogs 1st rounder.

For me, I'd see what we can do to get the GWS pick 13 - they need to match any bids for Fahey (a good player) who they can match at any point.

And we have to be careful not to go the hawthorn route trading out first round picks because it will just take longer.

Agree. Which is why I hope that article in the HS y/day is correct that we have no interest in Tom Mitchell.
And it was great to hear Ralph carr say we were only linked to Narkle b/c he and Shai are friends. But we had no interest thankfully.

Dont rate Narkle. And Mitchell means our young players have less of an opp to play.

I think Leppa is working hard on 'his Head of Strategy' craft. Did anyone hear him say On SEN this week I think... he repeated a conversation he had with Grubby Allen when Grubby delisted a player. Leppa said to Grubby 'whad'ya do that for, the player is a good player'. Grubby replied 'he is, but if he's still on the list, the coach will pick him b/c the coach wants to win; we need to give a younger player in that position the opp to play'.

Happened a little this year early games - which makes sense b/c we were still trying to make finals. Dont want list cloggers Mitchell, Narkle, Wallis, etc.
Maybe only Talia as back up if we lose some backmen through injury.

We are in desperate need of a tall forward to draft. As they won’t be ready as I have posted on the Caddy thread he plays deepest forward when Dusty allows it. The 2018 version of Caddy can kick 30 to 40 goals.

We also need to draft a KPD, Talia if he passes a medical provides as with coverage to play the shut down big guy so that Balta can attack.

We need a quick skilful winger. This needs to be drafted. But at least if we get the right person ie. Zak Butters type they could play round 1.

We need an X factor forward. Again this type of player can be found in the draft and they might be ready to go straight away.

We need another clearance mid. This player needs to be drafted. But they are unlikely going to be able to impact here next year. So we really need Riley CD and Jack Ross to stand up. If either of them do we will be ready to contend next year.

Port Adelaide although they have won no flag are out benchmark for a rebound.
