Terrorist attacks in Paris

You don't get it. I don't give a hoot what they do to each other in their homeland. I don't want it coming here. End of.

I do get it. You post opinion as fact and when called on it can't back it up. It would be nice to retreat to your suburban castle and shut all the evils of the world outside our oh so secure borders but sweetie the world doest work like that any more.

Clearly you believe you are Australian before being part of humanity. I choose the opposite.

I want nothing of team Australia, Aussie aussie Aussie, oi oi oi oi. That is part of the problem not the solution

Young and idealistic/old and conservative, that's how life goes for most people. I've merely learned that I can't solve the world's problems. We are taking refos, I believe we have increased our take of refos.

Ask yourself how the Syrian crisis came about, then preach to me the wisdom of multiculturalism/immigration/diversity for diversity's sake. Because when the numbers are large enough, our own hands will be full. Can't you see how small numbers of Muslims already impose upon their hosts and demand special arrangements rather than "doing as the Romans do"?

At least I'll be able to cope psychologically if the sh!t hits the fan. You idealists will be left shocked and bewildered.

You honestly reckon 99.9% of Muslims don't hate what IS is doing? Muslims aren't IS.

Put it this way, if ISIS conquered the world they would live happily under Islamic rule. They don't hope the US crushes ISIS in the way e.g. Australians prayed for the British to crush the Germans in WW2. Plenty of Australians I've spoken to are suspicious about their allegiances. Are Muslims horrified by the Paris attacks the same way you and I are horrified? No.

Speak to Muslims here, they p!ss and moan about the Australian government like it's the worst place on earth.

"Refos." Really? Lose the perjoratives and stick to your football statistics.

Thee *smile* been hitting the fan since 9/11 and for most of human history. If you understand history you are rarely surprised at a continuation of past patterns.

I'm not as big a fan of Waleed's article as some. Of course we shouldn't label, judge or treat people differently based on race or religion. Of course being Muslim doesn't make anyone a supporter of terrorism. I don't see how all the love and friendship in the world would stop the atrocities though. How can me having Muslim friends for dinner have save the poor people in Paris this week? We should treat everyone with respect rather than make assumptions. There need to be far bigger answers to stop the slaughter. I just wish I knew what the answers are.

I don't understand the widespread acceptance of Islam when it clearly oppresses women, gays and minorities in general.

I see Adam Hills has got himself into some trouble saying Pauline should be "hung" from the Sydney harbour bridge. I find it odd that his only comments after the Paris tragedy are aimed at the irrelevant thoughts of Hanson as well as Bolt and Trump. Wonder why he doesn't speak out against the perpetrators? Seems Adam ( who is alledgedly a comedian?) only targets the likes of Abbott, Hanson etc but never seems to pick a hard target. Spose next he,ll hitting us with some Frankston jokes or maybe a mother in law one?

It doesn't though. The extremists are interpreting the Koran to suit their agenda.

Pakistan and Indonesia have had female presidents/leaders in recent times.

Shorthand rather than pejorative. Similar to 'abo' and 'Paki' which were common in a previous generation, but have been turned into something sinister.

My football statistics say Bachar Houli's the only Muslim to play for Richmond, and he had to sneak out the window to play as a kid because his parents didn't approve.

Joining a local sporting club is one of the best ways to integrate with your community.

Not saying acceptance comes easily, but it's attainable if you want it.

You must be joking.

"I have the right to criticize my wife. She doesn’t. With us, a wife is a housewife. A woman should know her place. A woman should give her love to us... She would be our property. And the man is the owner. Here, if a woman does not behave properly, her husband, father, and brother are responsible. According to our tradition, if a woman fools around, her family members kill her... That’s how it happens, a brother kills his sister or a husband kills his wife."

- President of (Muslim-run) Chechnya

Their law also provides for homosexuals to be caned and then killed following a third "strike".

I know Muslims in this country who will not permit their wives to get a job, will not permit them to drive a car. And these are "moderates", comparatively well-adjusted.

The simple fact that woman have to cover up is absurd enough. Don't think that has anything to do with extremists. See Houli's wife at the Brownlow and Waleed Aly's wife on that Julie Zemiro interview show.

Again maybe more cultural than religious. In asia there would be as many Muslims females without covering up add there is that do. And out here it's very rare to see a full on face covering as well.

What people do in the name of religion doesn't necessarily mean they have the interpretation right.

The Koran provides for individual Muslims to cast judgement on who is "innocent".

Anyway I don't want to wish to sidetrack this onto the topic of Islam itself.
