Tambling (merged)

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Thought he had a resonable game. Played well in patches and was usually effective in what he did. I'm pretty sure he won't get dropped after that effort. He is playing the role Dimma has given him.

Yeah thought the same. A couple of critical errors - yep, granted. And they are sure irksome, like when he ran straight into Mitch Clark for no reason. But thought the overall package was ok. His skill in finding teammates by foot, hand and by little taps was really good. Look for the kick to Matt White in the 3rd qu - it was quality. His kick to the square that set up Farmer's goal was also good. He's no star, but I don't understand the vehemence around here about his game.

I'm with you hopper! I am sure a lot who post on here do not see the tap out from the bottom of the pack or the pressure he places on opponents who miss kick it or scrub their kick all together.

Yes he makes errors - but name one Tiger player out their tonight who was error free - even Delidio erred.

He is doing a job that Hardwick has earmarked him for - watch him develop even more before you stick the knife into him again - leave it until seasons end - thats what I say.......

Agreed Hop. Richie has the ability to play his role & not much more, which he did tonight.
He's playing to his abiltiies, to expect anything else is unfair on him.

Agree. He is what he is, and he is in our best 22.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

When he has the ball he just seems to have no idea what to do with it most times. Don't think that has anything to do with calf surgery. That's lack of a football brain.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

is he in our best 22 at the moment?? if so then its just..he did a few nice things last night but not enough...id like to see him run into form in coburg and give his spot to polo or webberely..or maybe another taller foward to help jack out as there,s not much down there at the moment..so polak taylor or morton would be good swaps..
so many of our other smaller running players have come along way this year..white edwards collins farmer nason ,but tambo ,unfortunetly has gone backwards..

Re: Tambling [Merged]

What exactly is Bling's role?

I have no idea what he is supposed to be doing.

People keep talking about all sorts of players on our list who will be gone by next year, but I reckon Bling could be one of the first.

Hardwick has been giving plenty of opportunity to guys to show what they have to offer, and plenty like White, King, Collins and Nason have showed some very promising signs.

But Bling seems to have stayed in neutral. Dimma might be really happy with the way Bling is travelling right now, who knows?

But if I were to bet on it, I see Richie being traded out at the end of this year.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Apparently his role is to run beside opposition players when they have the ball, maybe to tell them their hot or something similar. He ain't running hard enough. Did some good things last night but he just has this terrible lack of awareness that is going to be his nemesis I think. Might end up as a good depth player. Or might not.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Is a passenger and needs to be traded. One of several players that are our weakest link.

There was some great ball movement last night, but when Tambling received it he just hesitated and stuffed things up.

6 years of crap.

Agree. When he has the ball and has plenty of space to run into it looks like he is going to put the burners on but then stops, props and stops all the momentum.

Is it a confidence thing? I dont know.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Good post Hopper.

Richard seemed to be going OK up until half time by just doing the 1%ers, the team things. By that I mean his confidence was noticably down, but he kept being of value by doing the little things well enough, the taps ons, the kicks to another player's advantage, some good tackling and shepherds.

Then he seemed to try and crank it up a notch by taking on the game at a time when Brisbane was getting some accendancy and came unstuck a few times, caught trying to do more than he had been earlier.

I think there are some real confidence issues there, whether cause on or off the field we could only guess, but this is not the Richard Tambling that was still improving of recent years.

It will be interesting to see what the coaches do with him after the break. It might be good for him.

Certainly wasn't the case this week. Only had 2 tackles and 3 1%ers. Again he was the worst by far for number of possessions versus number of disposals. 15 disposals and 21 possessions means he was caught 6 times without being able to dispose of the footy. That means he was caught 28% of the time. It just isn't good enough for an AFL player. And it relates back to awareness and confidence. Maybe he needs some hearing tests.

i expect tonight to be his minimum output. he was servicable

Been saying that for most of this year.
He's in our best 22 but it's been a disappointing follow up from last season.
Just hasn't gone on with it for whatever reason.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Tambling started well. his tackling and pressure on the Lions was excelent to start with - Unfortunately I don't think he could ever maintain 4 quarters. will he ever be able to stop going missing.

Re: Tambling [Merged]

Bling is obviously a confidence player who seems to have very little of it atm. We know he is very capable at the top level and is in our best 22 when showing those capabilities. As was evident last year. I think he needs to string some VFL games together in which he should be able to dominate to boost that confidence. If he's carrying an injury, rest him then play him in the VFL

does that mean he was caught with the ball 6 times, or he was able to hold the ball in six times in pack situations?
does a tap on count as a 'possession'?

Hold the ball in? Are you kidding me? Isn't the idea to move the ball on? A tap on is not a possession, it may be a 1%er I'm not sure.

Whatever it is, I have been keeping a tab, and Tambling appears many times in matches to have many more possessions than disposals compared to other players. If that translates to what I see when watching games, it means he is getting caught with the ball after gaining possession.
