Hang on, nice try! You want to compare repayments on a cardboard box design in Cranbourne against rents in Burwood or Kew? How about comparing rents in the burbs against the repayments in the burbs. Apples for apples!!
the point i was trying to make zips is that for less money in the burbs you can own/buy your own house than renting some overpriced rundown dunghole in the inner city.cardboard box design ????yeah right a california bungalow built in the 40 s with a shotgun hallway in malvern is a much better design .that must be the reason they're worth so much more.attitudes like that are the reason today tonight will never run out of whingeing poor me stories

No whingeing poor me if these people decide to hock themselves up the eyeballs - any *smile* can do that. How is it the government's fault if people are so stupid as to overextend themselves & not leaving a buffer for the inevitable interest rate rises? It is the disgraceful lenders who are duping these people & should be curbed urgently as there are going to be plenty of people who will either have to sell or lose the house altogether because of their naivety & the freedom these so called lenders are afforded.

PM dines with porn kingBy Clinton Porteous

PRIME Minister John Howard attended an intimate fundraising lunch with a violent Brisbane pornographer in the lead-up to the 2004 federal election.

The man was facing charges of torture and grievous bodily harm at the time.
The Courier-Mail can report that porn mogul Scott Phillips, was among 20 guests who enjoyed a lavish two-hour meal with the Prime Minister at the Sirromet Winery in July 2004.

Phillips, who is in jail after pleading guilty to a range of violent crimes, received a late invitation to the lunch and slipped through the screening net in what amounts to a major security gap.

Guests paid about $2000 each to attend the lunch at Sirromet in Mount Cotton, south of Brisbane, which raised funds for Liberal candidate Andrew Laming who went on to win the seat of Bowman.

But some of those who attended were disgusted that Phillips was present and spoke out angrily. "I was not happy to be there," said one.

Inquiries show that Phillips' name did not appear on the final guest list which is usually checked by the Liberal Party state branch and the PM's office.

Mr Howard attends dozens of fundraisers each year and the affair raises the question whether another security breach could occur in the future.

The co-ordinators of the lunch, Mr Laming and former Queensland Liberal Party president Con Galtos, denied inviting or reserving a seat for Phillips.

Dr Laming, who is already under a cloud after police raided his offices earlier this month over an alleged rorting of electoral allowances, was emphatic he did not invite the porn king.

"I have no knowledge of inviting him, certainly he was not invited to the lunch by me," he said.

Mr Galtos said he would never associate with "anyone of low repute".

But solicitor Melissa Bongiorno, the partner of Liberal MP Ross Vasta, admitted she played a role in Phillips attending.

"It was a very last-minute thing. It was completely unintentional," she said.

Ms Bongiorno said that Mr Vasta invited her to the lunch, and she asked her girlfriend to come, who in turn, invited Phillips.

"I saw it as quite innocent and invited her along, and I did not know she was bringing her boyfriend," she said.

Ms Bongiorno said she did not know that Phillips had made a fortune from pornography.

When Phillips attended the fundraiser in July 2004, he had been already charged and committed to stand trial for torture, grievous bodily harm, and associated charges over a brutal attack in early 2002.

In April 2006, he was convicted and commenced a five-year jail term after pleading guilty. Police last year described him as a "highly brazen, violent psychopath".

A spokesman for Mr Howard said the office never commented on security matters but it is understood the Prime Minister was unaware of Phillips's background.

Mr Galtos, who was the RSVP contact for the event, said he was told that three extra guests would be coming.

One of the very few Liberals with a soul. Your party needs him desperately. Thankfully the Liberal party members echoed my thoughts in his last preselection contest. He romped in despite Downer interfering and backing against him.

Nah Gypsy.....he's not a team player, and the last thing you want is a 'cowboy' going against what the party is trying to achieve. Thats why Downer had a crack.

He's in a safe Lib seat (Kooyong).....and will be voted in because the majority of people there have always backed the Libs....so I wouldn't put too much credence on him holding his seat, unfortunately.

Why do you think the Aussie cricket team has been so successful over its time?
Because Taylor, Waugh, and Ponting are respected as captain, and their decisions are respected.
I'm sure there are some players that feel, personally, they are getting hard done by....and they can write a book about it when they retire...but for the betterment of the team, they keep their mouth shut.
Notice how Warnie only bagged Buchanan's training methods AFTER he retired?

Team players.....its what you want, and something Georgiou isn't.

That sounds better now... :hihi

Got no problem Islams having a Party, as some of them I'm sure are Aussie citizens and that is their right here.
Their views and policies can be voted on by the public.

Just had to laugh at it being called the "Australian Peace Party", thats all.

I reckon your a chance to vote for Rudd at the next election L'Pool.

At the moment, I'll still most likely vote for the Libs....however, Rudd has surpised me.

He isn't as "anti Government" as we saw with Beazley, and certainly not as aggressively "anti-Government/anti-US" like Mark Latham was.

I think one of the main hesitations some people might have in Rudd, is his shadow called Gillard.
She does have a lot to say, for someone who isn't the leader, and I think she is a lot more ambitious than people give her credit for.
I just hope Rudd atches his back.... :help

Having said that, Rudd has agreed (to some extent, and he suffered an outburst from Gillard about this) that the WorkChoices were not as evil and bad as the Unions had made out, and he hasn't said he would get rid of them.
He might refine them somewhat, but I think the Government itself has done the same, and will continue to do the same, as the new laws are soaked in by employers, employees, and unions.

Rudd has also dodged around getting rid of the GST, something the Libs brought in.

Rudd said some strong words when the illegal boatload of Sri-Lankans were heading to Australia last month, and stated the ALP's immigration policy, which is VERY similar to the one the Government already have, about turning boats around and processing people offshore.

And we see today, that Rudd is also concerned, with the way the Islam population have integrated into the mainstream population, and in particular, people like Sheik Hilali and his outspoken and offensive remarks.

I might not vote for Rudd on election day....but if he keeps going, the way he is going....he isn't going to be that much different to what we have now in Government, and that isn't that bad of a thing, I reckon.
I might be in a position, where it won't matter who I vote for, I might be on a winner anyway!
;D

Ruddy (aka "Little Johnny Version 2") is doing o.k.....more agreeing with the Government to add to the ones I mentioned in my post above:

Labor ends opposition to Telstra privatisation
Steve Lewis
Chief political correspondent
March 21, 2007

LABOR is to overturn its historical opposition to the Telstra privatisation as part of a broader pitch to boost its economic credentials ahead of the election.
In a move which will upset sections of the Left - and the key communications union - Kevin Rudd is poised announce the big policy change in Canberra.

Labor is expected to announce plans to invest around $5 billion in broadband services using some of the proceeds from Telstra, which are currently held in the Government's Future Fund
The historical shift recognises that Telstra has already been effectively privatised, although a large slab of the Commonwealth's shares remain locked away in the Future Fund

I can't be bothered reading the articles or your quote of your own post Livers so don't really know what the above comment is referring to but I think it's a breath of fresh air to have a pollie who's game to agree with some ideas instead of the usual bagging of anything to do with the opposing party as is more the norm.

Same as people aligning with one party or another regardless of policies.  There's good and bad on both sides.

Now if only Kev would promise to scrap the GST he'd be home and hosed.

Rosy,
That's pretty funny actually.

Ruddy was the new 'golden child' as he was supposed to be the one to push Howard in the next election, with all these new policies and the like.
The Left were wetting their pants in excitement!

Now Ruddy is settled in his role, and is agreeing with more and more of the Government's policies (WorkChoices, illegal immigrants, concerns over Islam, not getting rid of the GST, and now Telstra).....we hear the "it's a breath of fresh air to have a pollie who's game to agree with some ideas instead of the usual bagging of anything to do with the opposing party as is more the norm"....c'mon Rosy, gimme a break! :hihi

If Ruddy is agreeing with more and more of the policies the Government have in place, then why vote for Ruddy?....why not vote for the Libs, who came up with many of these policies to begin with? ;)

Just saw Mr Sheen (Howard) on question time. I hate that man, he is so full of *smile*. I wish I could respond to the tripe he came out with.
Brilliant politician though. How else would such a *smile* stay in power so long?
