Talking Politics

When will Trump commence his mass deportation of undocumented workers, as promised.

94% of agricultural workers are Spanish speaking, 50% of farm workers are undocumented.

I wonder who the farmers will get to replace those workers, it won't be US citizens that is for certain.

He'll deport a few and then lose interest, especially since, as you say, undocumented migrants do the *smile* jobs Americans want to avoid.

Bad loss for the Dems but not a landslide, a landslide involves winning more than the swing states which the Republicans did not do.

Biden inherited an economy where inflation was getting warmed up and growth was not great. Trump inherits a very healthy economy - inflation falling, productivity up, growth getting going. If he implements the tariffs he may well mess this up, but, hey, they're stuck with him for 4 years and it is unlikely the Dems could shift the Senate in 2026.

The exit poll data is interesting. Looks like the black vote barely moved, Dems lost a few percent of women voters, but the Latino vote, especially men, shifted substantially away from the Dems.

Time the Dems focussed more on the economic issues. Apart from the rich, Americans have been going backwards for 40 years. Bring back class as a focus, the middle and working classes have been screwed for decades (by both parties), and Trump ain't interested in them so it will just continue.

Oh well, whoever you vote for the government gets in, and this government will have control of congress, the presidency and the supreme court. We'll see what they do with it.

I am talking about the 84 electoral votes .Try again
Honestly, a bit like listening to Trump, hard to know what you're talking about. How does 82 electoral votes (for California and New York) represent 2/3rds of the 224 she won. Sometimes you gain respect for just admitting the obvious, that you were wrong. Can you do that?

Israel (with the support of the US) has been choking the life out of Palestine for 80 years, haven't you noticed? And that will get worse under Trump.

Now watch what happens with Ukraine and Russia - that will be worse for Ukraine too.
Nothing that hasn't been happening worldwide for a thousand years n more. So why expect things to suddenly be different?

Blow the *smile* out of everything, kill off half a million people. Or work out some sort of negotiated settlement where everyone gets a little bit of something to share and everyone hopes the big bloke with the kabooms doesn't keep coming back for more.
Bend n merge or fight to the death, humans been doing it since forever n still got no idea how to merge properly.

I'm not a political person, can't stand the scene.
As Lou Reed says, it's "something like a circus or a sewer".

people normally, through elections, get the leaders they deserve
and if the USA thinks Trump - and his family - should be in the White House - so be it

on a human non-political level, I believe racist, sexist a-holes full of of hate speak
should be nowhere near positions of power, but they are all over the world

New York State and California represent about 17% of the population of the US and she got about 42% of the electoral votes on offer.

You would therefore expect them to represent about 17/42 of her electoral votes (all this being equal if electoral votes approximate population ) = 40%

Those two states represented 37% of her electoral votes.

I love arithmetic ...

A lot of leaders were ousted during the COVID period. It was hard to be a world leader back then. Biden should never have got in, but COVID was a big leg up simply bc Trump was too slow to react and take it serious. He allowed thousands of people to die before he woke up. Was it neglect by Trump or was he poorly advised? Either way it was tough to be a world leader and the number of leaders that lost their reign was incredibly high.

And you might find similar with Trump using Texas and Florida's 70 electoral votes. 2nd & 3rd most populous states.

In what parallel world does 4,151,877 + 5,544,919 equal 2/3rds of 66,102,013?
Doesn't work like that as it's a winner take all system so it's just a play on words. I think we can safely say she won 82/224 points from two states which is 36.6% of her ECV. I really hate their system of winner takes all as it basically means you lose all electoral votes of a state and you can have similar percentages. Maine and Nebraska has it right as they allocate votes by congressional district which shows you exactly how parties perform in a state and are rewarded for it.
Study this to see how Californians voted as well as New York results as it shows she won 82 ECV yet a large lot of electorates were dominated by Trump. She was smashed in every aspect of this election and the points on final ECV doesn't show the true picture. Looking at the electoral seats and swings in all states is the real indicator of how poor she performed.

Should we despair at this development in the US? It's how I feel at the moment.

To the point where I will have to force myself to ignore the certain corruption and injustices that will prevail domestically in the US and focus solely on how the authoritarian politics of the most powerful country on the planet affect our neck of the woods. Even limiting my interest to this extent gives me a depressing malaise.
