Talking Politics

I think you overestimate Americans
I don’t necessarily think so. Take a bloke like Obama for instance. Despite the inevitable racial political undertones that follow him (both from supporters and more rabid opponents), in general, a pretty moderate fella. In the hypothetical scenario he could seek another term, he would slaughter either of these two candidates.

What a great day. The woke agenda has been put on its arse ala Stack on Viney. Open borders, giveaways to leaners, the climate hysteria, rampant crime, men in woman’s sports, lawfare, subbing in a moron at the death, the media being in the tank, the list goes on, all soon to be a thing of the past or won’t matter. Next stop Albo then Allen.
So 16 hours a day on RW twitter huh.

Don’t agree with everything here. But unless Albo pulls back immigration he can go.

But 100% agree on Allen. The ALP have destroyed regional Victoria. Worst roads in Australia and no money to fix them.

I think the world has significantly changed since Obama was last elected, and the US political landscape more so.

Trump is going to have unfettered control of the United States. Republicans will have the White House, the house of reps, and the Senate. He is going to go ballistic.
Is that definite? I was reading that a likely scenario was they would have the White House and Senate, but not the house. Seen as the perfect storm for deadlock.

But that may have changed as more votes have come in since the article was written.

It’s difficult to win an election when you pick up the pieces when someone stands down or ousted by their party.
Very rare as they resign because the country is in a mess and they are just a temporary facelift. The Western world is in an economic crisis and working class families and below are suffering. Unfortunately the Democrats have forgotten their grass roots and focused too much on woke issues which was catering to the minority. In the end The wily old coyote Trump played the family line and making America great again. If you want to win votes give the majority hope.

Dems *smile* this. Or more, Biden did. Had he stepped down prior to the campaign and elected not to nominate, it would have given the party a chance to go through the whole primaries process. A candidate that had gone through that I feel, would be perceived at least, to hold more legitimacy. Possibly a candidate more liked by the moderates across party lines too.

Such a candidate would have won in a landslide.
I think just as importantly Pink Panther, even if it might have been hard for anyone else to win Dem nomination (but let’s say if they had), it would have nixed the whole Biden Administration link that Harris has had to fight against, even though the BA to my thinking, did a better job than Trump did in his last term. Anyway….

I think certain issues that are more root or inherent in the USA generally at the moment are also at play here, as opposed to just political ones like the economy, process of things etc. I’m talking about the massive gap between the educateds and uneducateds that exists and huge groups of people being susceptible to lies, misinformation and theatre. I’m talking about the lack of progressive thinking that will allow them to embrace a female President. And so on.

I come from a family upbringing that was right of centre and quite traditionalist on socio-cultural issues, law and order, security. But centre-left economically, with a green, environmental conscience. It really formed my moral compass. Culturally we were from working class roots in regional Australia, but materially my parents and grandparents had worked their way to lower middle class by the time I was born and being raised.

I wonder if that combination makes me quite an unorthodox voter.

But the phenomenon you describe resonates with me. I feel totally lost politically.

I’m of the same background and I’m definitely an unorthodox voter as I’m a swinging voter. I play the policies that parties bring that best supports hard working lower class families. Unfortunately, these policies are being lost as all these other social issues have been introduced, but in the end they are just a distraction and not a major gain for the country. Political parties are being run by the media and mainly mega million to billion dollar corporations and they’re all screwing the middle to lower classes. Americans are suffering up to 4x inflation in some basic needs on similar wages . These companies are the only winners.

Listening to the US of A chanting at Trump on stage reminds me of the Hitler days. Now we have three ego maniacs running the three most powerful countries in the world so interesting times ahead.

Too many old, rural white uneducated, racist, gun-toting people still in the US have too much of a say in elections due to th nature of the voting system. I know I visited almost every state by car in my travels and met alot of locals, and I guarantee you many would not vote for a white woman, let alone one of colour. Their belief aligns exactly with that of an ancient, uneducated, mysogynistic, racist, senile, unempathetic, wannabe dictator criminal, that being Donald Trump. There's a significant base that will always support a Trump-type in the US. In a way it's Republican genius but they've re-opened a bottle they shouldn't have. There's going to be no shortage of 'unwanted' excitement politically from this point on.

Hard to know what USs obsession is with 80yo presidents.

So you reckon poor Harris was hardly done by?She got almost two thirds of her votes from California and New York. Perhaps the Educated latte drinkers need to look beyond their insular surroundings and perhaps give kudos to those poor uneducated racist types you refer to,as they are probably feeding and clothing you.In this country I reckon Albo will feel the brunt of many here for exactly the same reasons. So perhaps your next road trip will be to visit all and sundry here before the election to cast your pretty narrow view .
