Talking Politics

Should we despair at this development in the US? It's how I feel at the moment.

To the point where I will have to force myself to ignore the certain corruption and injustices that will prevail domestically in the US and focus solely on how the authoritarian politics of the most powerful country on the planet affect our neck of the woods. Even limiting my interest to this extent gives me a depressing malaise.

This is exactly how I feel.

To me the worrying part is how velcro'd we are to the USA. When Drumpf first got elected Australian governments should have seen the writing on the wall and started to put serious work into actually building stronger relations in our area, and with other key export markets and key partners. While I think the Labor govt has gone a way to reversing the massive damage done by SloMo & Co, they've still stuck to the USA and UK way beyond makes any sense. Not saying we should be breaking these ties, just that we should be building more.

I won't even get started about letting more US troops set up in the N.T.

Alot of overreacting going on. Nothing much will change like it did during 2016 to 2020, then the Democrats will be back in power in 2028 and on and on we go.

100%. We need to see the shifting world landscape and realise the US is a crumbling empire.

Honestly, a bit like listening to Trump, hard to know what you're talking about. How does 82 electoral votes (for California and New York) represent 2/3rds of the 224 she won. Sometimes you gain respect for just admitting the obvious, that you were wrong. Can you do that?

Look at the sea of red on their country map.Take away those two states, not much left is there? 82 votes from two states and still could not get over the line shows there is more required to win office than have celebs rooting for you.

When will Trump commence his mass deportation of undocumented workers, as promised.

94% of agricultural workers are Spanish speaking, 50% of farm workers are undocumented.

I wonder who the farmers will get to replace those workers, it won't be US citizens that is for certain.

If Trump implements all his policies will be hard to see how the above articles assertions do not come true.

1. Who replaces the deported illegals? You create demand for labour guess what - labour costs go up. What does that do? Increase costs of production which gets passed on to the end consumer. Prices for goods go up.

2. Tarrifs - if companies do continue to import goods they will pass on any cost increases to the end user. Prices for goods go up.

Hard to see how these 2 main planks of his policies do nothing but increase prices/increase inflation.

He did commit to drill baby drill, I imagine that will mean oil/gas energy prices will go down (maybe not though) so some inputs could reduce. Will that have enough impact to stop inflation getting out of control?

Trump wants to turn back globalisation, it would appear impossible to me.

You are reinforcing a stereotype.

I think he has the mandate to go through with his policies, you are underestimating the potential impact.

Dril drill drill. This will be a big change, he will cut regulations that may have prevented some of these developments proceeeding. It should reduce domestic energy prices in the US.

Deporting millions of immigrant workers - this will increase labour costs

Introducing tarrifs on every imported good - this will increase prices of everything

Will be fascinating to see what the results of these massive changes have.

Trump's drill baby drill, and his alliance with Elon Musk make them strange bed partners.

With Trump being an isolationist and anti war, it will be interesting if China fast tracks it's plans for Taiwan.

One statement by Trump was to make the U.S. the "crypto capital of the planet."

Wonder how many of his mates are gonna get rich and then get out of the massive ponzi that is crypto

It will be a watch. There have been reports that RK jnr was promised either health or environment secretary. Having a US Health secretary who is anti vax ???

Abortion rights is another one, big implications.

Foreign policy, the Palestinians, the Ukrainians? I don’t even want to think about it.

And his desire to bypass the Fed. Will he have the authority to end central bank independence?

And the judiciary - there will be a lot more conservative judges appointed

Ultimately he has the madate to do these things.

Who is going to say no to DT?

This article was written during Trumps original term as president.

It's a bit scary to think what he might do now with the judiciary.

I think the real concern is Trump’s mental and physical health. If he dies or is declared mentally unfit, then Vance steps in. Having Vance in that job is not a comforting thought.

And now the Fed cases against Trump will be dropped

He is still awaiting sentencing on Nov 26. Guess what, that will not proceed now, and likely never.

Forget Springsteen, Seal etc. Here is Vance's musical support

Trump won the election, so guess facts dont matter anymore.

Trump won the election, so guess facts dont matter anymore.
But did he really win the election?

There have been reports of cheating by republicans everywhere, hanging chads, dead people had their votes counted, votes were counted twice and those counting machines are flawed.

I posted all this with black hair dye running down the side of my face.

The biggest worry is seeing just how many Americans are susceptible to the dog whistling politics of hate. Where they have become so entrenched with a movement that they fail to realise they are being led by the nose by the very "elites" they are rallying against. They are unable to comprehend the constant stream of lies they are being fed because it's the movement, their identity, that they are committed too.

Australia typically isn't far behind the US. We're already starting to see a similar style of politics here with a similar legion of movement followers. Our media is more at risk than the US with Murdoch owning most of the news outlets.

I might buy some shares in the Daily Mail.
