Sydney Stack

What are you implying mate? That we don't like Stacky - or that its a racist thing?

I dont see either as being relevant. Everyone bought stock in the Sydney Stack train last year. We all loved his effort, his enthusiasm, his price in being aboriginal - we all wanted to see him succeed. We all saw a bloke who had gotten a chance, take it and win the world over. We were all, ALL IN.

This year we have seen a different bloke, just from going from his onfield stuff. His form dropped away, his effort was not there. He was sluggish, looked unfit and struggled to perform despite the coach giving him more chances than most. Then he wrapt it all up by doing this, 2 weeks out from the finals. We all know CCJ was there too - but he hasn;t been a regualr senior player and i see zero point posting my comments evenly between the 2 threads. The convo is taking place here.

This is definitely not a race or personal thing with Stacky. We all wanted to see him succeed. But we drafted him with an * next to his name & this year without all the highlights and boyish charm to back it up - we saw why the * existed. Seeing this side of him, i don't want a *smile* bar of it & would rather the club move on. We are not commenting as much about CCJ mainly because, none of us bought the stock in him like we all did with Stacky. Because of that, we all feel incredibly let down by him.

It was only 2 weeks ago he was part of the team playing in Darwin. To be honest, most here felt he didn;t deserve his spot in that side, but his aboriginal heritage most likely got him a game as Dimma believed in him and understands what that game means to those kids. For him to play up like this 2 weeks out from finals after months of media scrutiny finally behind us - he has not respected the club in the same way they clearly respected him

C'mon mate, I don't think he was getting at anything to do with race. I think it was more just an observation.

Sounds like they won’t be sacked , fingers Crossed Syd can some how find the discipline that’s needed, been a lot worse people turn there life’s around.
Plenty of good-looking, highly talented, slightly conceited and immature but fundamentally good 20-year-olds.

can you axpand this a bit? I don't think you've laboured the point enough. What the point is I'm not real sure besides.

Equally, Jules, Syd's much-reported upbringing means it would be unfair of anyone to expect him to become Trent Cotchin overnight. Wrap our arms around him, help him grow. If that's not the Richmond way maybe our culture has gone to *smile*.
Totally agree. Bring him back into the fold by closing ranks around him and teaching him. Not just for Richmond but for Stack himself.

Make Stack a Richmond man!

That's the Richmond way.......

This is a huge growth opportunity for Syd. His future may or may not lie with us, I hope it does.

'Tis, mate. Reckon he's a good kid, though. I'll be disappointed if we sack him.

Any other year i'd maybe be up for it - but its not a normal year. We have a loaded rookie squad on our list that are going to need a senior spots. Plus we will need to make room for more new draftee's, as our list desperately needs to start filling some future holes (stacks role is not one). List numbers are certain to drop - as well as cap space, with only Houli likely to retire & most likely Garthwaite the only other obvious delisting. Word is maybe Rance comes back. Everyone else has a fair narrative to keep their job.

Should we "wrap our arms" around Stack despite this monumental *smile* up, reasoning it being due to his troubled past - at the cost of fella's that have done nothing to deserve losing their spot?

Markov, Eggs, Chol, Aarts - all have shown a lot and bought into the clubs culture perfectly.

Naish & RCD are top picks who are still young and lacked the chances to perform at senior level that Stack was granted.

Turner has lacked his chance to show anything

Miller is the only project tall defender we have

Ralphsmith & Martyn have only had 1 year in the system and been totally devoid of an opportunity to prove themselves or develop due to COVID-19/no ressies./

English, Cumberland, Higgins, & Nyuon all have hard luck stories of their own with injurys and illness

At least 6, maybe 8 players are likely to be required to be cut from our list to make room for new draftee's and new cap/list restrictions.

Based on that - do you honestly think its fair that after this monumental *smile* up from Stack & CCJ, these other guys lose their spot - as its the "clubs job" support him? I'd be *smile* livid if i were any of the above blokes who got cut before him, especially since they are guaranteed to miss the first 6 weeks of next season, minimum. I'd be even more livid if the club couldn't afford to offer Broad or Graham a contract they most likely deserve in an attempt to keep too many low end players when our window is now.

Its harsh, but Stack has picked the worst possible year for himself to fall back to the old ways which lead to him going undrafted and made him the "cinderella" story of 2019. I liked the guy, but i dont believe in putting " a good story" ahead of blokes or kids that have done everything asked of them. He is done. The only thing that could save him is if the AFL INCREASES the rookie list by 5, while cutting the senior list down by 5 - effectively meaning list numbers stay the same, but the contracts players get are less guaranteed. If the list numbers drop by 5 tho - i just cant see how you can keep him without alienating the current playing group. Both players are likely to get a chance elsewhere - although our return on them now is totally shot.

If you cant be stuffed reading it, then don't mate. You don't have to read everyones stuff, its no a rule. Plenty of peoples threads i scroll past too - just dont feel the need to *smile* on a post just because someone took the time to write it longer than a tweet

Your medium might be twitter mate. Lots of blokes like you on there. I'f your looking for someone to follow, I recommend Trump. He is very succinct and dare say, right up your back alley

Id get bored if theres a lot of blokes like me on there.

2020 has not been a good year for Stack. He came back clearly unfit after the break in the season. He got plenty of games he really didn't deserve on his form, and he did not perform. Now he goes out and does this. FFS, they know not to go in an Uber and they know not to go to a nightclub. Then, they get involved in a barney. What, were they upset because no-one had caught them yet? I know the fight wasn't started by Stack or CCJ but they would know that attracting attention while you are breaking the rules is just not on. It seems the guy who started the fight made himself scarce, why did they hang around? This, when they know that the club has already had to weather one media s***storm and is on a second offence with part of that fine hanging over the club if there is another breach.

It really is too stupid for words.

Stack, and CCJ for that matter, are lucky they are under contract for 2021. Both have an opportunity, assuming the club doesn't delist them anyway, to make amends. But they really need to put a huge effort in and find some spectacular form or neither will last beyond 2021 at most.

Crossroads for both - either they come back to pre-season 2021 ridiculously fit and having worked hard on their skills or they will not last.

A pity as Stack certainly has the talent, big question as to whether he has the discipline and willingness to do the work to make it.

Ball is in your court now Sydney, it is your actions which will determine your future.

DS
