Steve Morris F/S

Full credit to Steve for his game tonight... he must have been taking note of the good advice offered here on PRE. ;D However... his crude tackle in the last minutes ALMOST cost us the game.... think he owes Lloydy big time!

Did his job.

Now qualifies for his next six games free pass.
Yep.
The law averages says Steve had to play 1 decent game somewhere along the line.

Interestingly enough, we've put some other players down the back who can run and carry the ball and left Steve to just try shut down an opponent. It means he gets to concentrate on doing what he's best at.

It also means that as the opposition have to worry about others carrying the ball, he can be a chop out and do some reasonable runs.

Think they've rotated some roles around, which has let Steve play to his strengths and the team is benefiting from it. He's limited, but the team has compensated for those limitations.

Back to his sliding, diving, ducking his head best. And for the most part the umps's let him get away with it. Even rewarding him at times.

Credit where credits due. Well played Steve!

Played his best football when he was the ole stick-to-your-man backpocket type player, and found the footy through tough one on one work. even in his best year he didnt win a heap of it though.

Needs to be upgraded, but justified his selection tonight over Castagna. Just hope George still gets a couple more games this year too, whether in Morris' place or not depends on how he goes in the next few rounds, assuming he will be picked again.

Credit where credit's due. Has been gradually on the improve; getting his confidence/mojo back; returned to the role he does best, and the only role.

I thought he showed good signs against Hawthorn, last night was his best game for a long time. Well done Steve Morris you deserve a few plaudits tonight.

:fing32 Yes he was.

A natural back pocket/defensive player doing what he does best. Hopefully the coach and match committee
have abandoned any idea of turning him into a defensive forward.

Got at least 3 frees for it last night. When he's got so little going for him he has to do something well and that's it. Mind you Grimes is also very good at it, as was Jake King.

Half decent game for once.

I imagine he'll back to forward pocket next week.

Yep, back to his annoying rat back pocket standard. Never gunna be captain whizz bang, but when he's able to concentrate on his role within our defensive structure then he's honest n handy little bugger.

No problem playing him when he plays like that. Although probably helped by Sydney's similar lack of depth.

I still have no idea what happened to the guy we had in his first year. Must be frustrating being Steve knowing you can play at a certain level but then all form alluding him.

Pre his shoulder problems Morris was very good in the back pocket.
Then he played under duress because of injury.
Then Hardwick tried to turn him into something he isn't at the opposite end of the ground.

Last week was the first time in years I felt he was getting back to something like the player that first arrived on the scene.
I'm not sure where this is going but I'd play him there again next week that's for sure.
