Steve Morris F/S

The changes to the father-son rule are good for kids like Morris - we can nominate that we are interested in him and then if no other club bids for him then we can pick him with our last national draft pick.

If we try and get him in the rookie draft then GWS would have first crack under the rule where they get the best ten mature age state league players outside the AFL who have already been through an AFL draft.
I assume that means that if another club is interested they have to nominate a pick for him and all we have to do is match the offer with a pick from the same round . Is that the way it works ?
Also I think we have to nominate him as a F/S pick prior to trade week so we don't trade away the relevant pick .

1. Steven Morris could be on an AFL list next year.
Not for the first time this season, Morris has cut an opposition side to shreds from half back. He is lightning fast, reads the play perfectly so cuts off several kicks, keeps his man quiet and dashes through the middle. (Think Paul Puopolo from Norwood last year). Had a team-high 27 disposals today and will be right in Magarey Medal voting mid-way through the season.

That's an encouraging write up.

He'll have to push past Dea Batchelor Lids, Conca, Houli Newman Connors, and maybe Webberley to get a run at half back for Richmond.

I still think Matty White is our best player for the back pocket.

We have lacked a genuine back pocket players for years.

Newman, Houli, Connors and Lids are rebounding players, but none can really play a stopping role on a dangerous small forward.

To do that, you need genuine speed, which is why Farmer is struggling.

Not a 100% sure sinnerman but I think it's our next available pick. If we nominate him and a club lower than us offers a pick it's our pick in that same round but if a club after us offers a pick, say a Scumwood or Wet Coke it would be our pick in the next round.

Believe so Sinful, that's what cost the Bulldogs so much getting Cordy, Wallis and Libba, they were all seen as desirable by other clubs and went to Bulldogs on high order picks.

Not sure he'd come cheap to us under that method because he is right under the nose of Crows and Power, especially with power potentially losing similar types of players and if the Crows see him as a good fit to cover Johncock debilitating hip.

If another team nominates a pick for him we have to use our next available pick (so if Collingwood bid a first round pick then we would have to match with our round 2 pick)

The bidding happens before trade week (October 7)

ok great .

Getting a decent F/S pick in compromised drafts are probably better than others years. Picks are so spread apart that your "next pick" is probably a fair way back. That's even if someone bids for him early ie 2nd round. Exactly how the Dogs got Libba and Wallis with value picks when they were rated much higher and would've gone much earlier.

Good times.

Could see this not only releasing Lids to midfield as people have said because i think he would have been released more this year if not for injuries. But also may mean Dea can play as a run with player eventually. Or we have the ability to shut down 2 small forwards. (Betts/Garlett) (Milne/Schneider) etc

Being coached by Andy Collins too. Maybe we can get them in a package deal!! ;D

Andy Collins had West Adelaide top of the ladder at 5-1 after 6 rounds. They went 1-9 before their win last weekend. Think it is fair to say he will be available ;) No wonder Morris is staring in the backpocket, the ball hasn't left there in 3 months !

Always been a fan of Andy Collins from his premiership BP days at the Hawks and thru his premiership coaching stints at Sandringham.

These were the reasons I recommended to Greg for him to be got by the Tiges in some coaching capacity. Back then, Greg did act on it for the Coburg coaching role, which I thought he did quite well in, until he left.

Thought he did an excellent job in developing the junior players at Coburg and made them feel that they were a competitive team.

Reckon we could use him profitably in junior development and improve the defensive capabilities of all players.

If he can stop Milne and Betts from kicking plenty against us this kid could be a key player for us.
The lock down, hard as nails small defender is a key hole for us to fill.

Agree that he did a great job at Coburg, and seems to have done pretty well with North Adelaide. Suprised he doesnt have a role with an AFL club really.

Again from BF

Nothing wrong with his foot skills. They're probably something you don't really notice that much, and that isn't a bad thing as it means he isn't making big mistakes.

When he was first coming out of U18 football in 2007, he'd had a few injuries and was also playing more as an undersized forward. Wasn't until he came over to SA that he was moved to the back line, and that has improved his game. Had a knee reconstruction in his second season at West Adelaide, and that ended up costing him about half of last year too. Can't fault the way he has come back this year though.

Thanks for that. My recollections were correct.
