When a kick is on, you can see the other players realise its him and look for another option.

How can a bloke so big, with arms that long fail to grab a few marks each week?

Why do they kick to him
As far as the lead up/long option coming out of defence, he was the right option & in the right place - he just couldn't mark it. To make matters worse, his opponent would almost always win the ball when it went to ground & send it straight back in.

The only thing he gives us (and I agree that it isn't enough) is a second big body in the ruck, especially the centre bounce.

As a selection/player philosophy I've no issue with that - it's just that the two players that serve this role have to be able to play around the ground & up forward - e.g. mark, kick & compete. Maric can & Hampson can't. If Vickery had developed like a ruckman, we wouldn't be in this mess.

Our war chest is paying this dud. Twice he went one handed for a mark when he struggles with two hands and a trawler net. Should have been subbed. Keeping up the Richmond culture playing this flag pole
Hardwick cannot be serious playing him each week.
TV comes back next week and he must replace this embarrassment
The rest of the football community is laughing at us with this guy on our list
Where is Lounder when you need him?oh boy we're tanking big time

I listened to mark Williams speaking before the game and he was asked about hampson. He stated that he was flying in the pre season and has let the death of his father and the birth of his son impact his football. Now apparently he has had laser surgery so another excuse for this cardboard cut out that makes angus graham look like polly farmer and simon madden I'm sorry for what ever trauma he is dealing with but as a professional footballer he should be better and if he cant cope stay home look after baby and send megan out to walk the catwalk of david jones to put food on the table

Absolutely hopeless and unfortunately as expected as we all saw it at Carlton ::)

Was better than derrikx..but I'd play griff anyday
Hard to be worse than Derrickx. The way the players got around him after that goal was great to see and obvious that his team mates feel for him and like him, but its also a bit of an indictment against him that it caused such a fuss. It's normally reserved for defenders who hardly ever get the opportunity to shoot for goal, not ruck men who rest forward.

Ivan needs to ruck solo, with the assistance of Griff or Elton.

There can't be that big a difference between Stephenson/Derickx and Hampson.

And to think, we could've had Lewis Taylor with that pick.

If we can't trade him at the end of the season he should be retired and used in another role at the club. ie boot studded or museum curator

He could have been utilised as the assistant orange peeler but he is that unco-ordinated at times he'd be likely to cut his own hands off with the cutting knife.

Still can't believe we recruited this hack. Was spewing at the time and still spewing. His form was exposed for all the world to see but of course the geniuses at RFC chose to ignore the fact that he is a complete spud who in 7 years at Carlton couldn't hold his spot in an average team yet alone hold a mark.

He attempted an overhead mark right in front of me in the last quarter. It was contested but he had serious height advantage and front position. Any other ruckman in the league would have taken it but he embarrassed himself again. The ball seriously hit near his elbows instead of his hands  RFC supporters started laughing; again. He is the most inept marker I have ever seen at AFL level. He just has no clue what to do.

Hampson's eye problems should mean he only plays day games, never again at night or under the Etihad roof.

Not in the least surprised to hear that. Said so at the time much to the demusement of a few on here who thought the idea was laughable.

We gave up a second rounder for a player that can't play at Eitihad or under lights? Even if this were true it would never happen. Even if he was legally blind they'd still play him. It would be too embarrassing for those that recruited him that high a price not to.
