Best big man on the ground.
If you said that before the game, they would've sent you to the nearest mental hospital

I have never claimed Hampson is a very gifted or even capable footballer. But he actually tries near the best of his ability; has a real go generally. Cannot run that fast to catch and tackle much, but he's big and has a great jump. He makes his share of mistakes, not a canny footballer but you can see him trying to do what's needed to lift the team at times. His tap-work in the third quarter, in particular, was excellent often. Losing the clearances is a function of the whole midfield team, not merely the ruckman's tap. Geelong won the vital clearances when it mattered.

Hampson won more HOs (29) than Geelong's much-vaunted ruck stocks combined on his own today - Smith (13), Stanley (8), Blicavs (5). Note that without Griffiths, Hammer had next to no support - Vickery unbelievably not one HO, but staged for some frees superbly - Oscar Award. Griffiths is currently our only possible roving ruck/onballer type who may have countered combination of Stanley and Blicavs. More drafting failure.

Yep. All true.

It is just embarrassing watching vickery avoiding contact.

Complete embarrassment that we were forced to play Moore in the ruck when this guy is standing 25m away doing sod all as he did for much of the game.

Hammer had a great game, had no-one to give him a chop out without Griffiths in the team today and his marking was top notch. Thought we were sure to win when things like his snap on the right sailed through!!

I've gone all Sideshow Bob on Bart Simpson with Hampson.

He's a big lug, has a dip and is pretty rubbishy. He makes me larf.

But I've grown to like his face.

Even the hardest darksider would have trouble in not accepting that the Hamster had a good game today. Not the long term answer but if he continues in the same vein of form he will be more than serviceable.

Agreed, he is improving, and not our biggest problem by any means. For example, where is his backup? Vickery is incapable and Griff is injured too often. Suggestions please ...

Finally changing your tune? Heading over to the 'I was wrong' thread any time soon?

4 contested marks and a goal for Hampson, thought he dominated the ruck.

Improving and justified the contract extension with his performance today

Hammer played 79% GT, so not sure who rucked the missing 20% - Moore? Vickery not credited with even one HO.
BTW, his mates, Stanley and Blicavs gave Smith a lovely break, only had to play 72% GT. But Hampson had no Griffiths.

Makes Hammer's performance even more commendable. Took on their big 3 and is rated higher on AF of any of them (not sure how it works though - must rate HOs a lot like me and clangers subtract big time). Hammer's 90% DE was higher than any of his opponents. Furthermore, not given any clangers, but a total of 9 for the Geelong 3. And won more HOs than Geelongs 3 combined. Fair effort.
