Thanks.

So, two blokes: Gawn (21) and Mumford (17) had more HOTA than Hampson

SSSSSSHHHH. Don't point that out here! Now you've done it! Are you going to cop it.

The Spanish ... I mean PRE inquisition, is about to give you a severe (tongue) lashing.

I knew you'd bite. But you don't rate HOs at all? OK, each to his own.

Not really, mostly its just 2 ruckmen jostling and whoever gets his hand to the ball first ( meaning they aren't actually hitting the ball down to their team-mate) they just hitting it anywhere.

And until they publish the HOTD (Hit out to disadvantage) stats I'll reserve judgement on the HOTA stats.

His rucking in the first quarter was nothing short of astounding for him. Some of his deft touches to our players were too good to be flukes (I think in the past he has been fluky). The angle of his hand to get the ball where it went was stunning at times. But he went downhill through the game. I'm no fan, but his skills for a short while astonished me.

Uh no! Another one. Lamby and other Hampson slaggers are going to have fits. Duck and cover!!!

But want to go and look at what tactics Dawks did to curb the Hammer's influence. Looked to be a lot of grapple and wrestle before the throw-ups, but I was up in L4.

Yeah, it seemed to me that the hawks deliberately went out to nullify Hampson as he was killing them in the 1st. They made him the focus of their attempt to control us.

And Hampson is kind of comparable to Grundy and Mumford. So much for we should have grabbed one of these two instead.
Yep, wrapt we got Hampy instead of Mummy. :rofl

Yes and from there took gradual control of the game. Want to examine how legal their tactics were; suspect Umps let them get away with UFC tactics.

But, heh, everybody loves that family club - the Dawks. Was that ump, who had his HFC photo on his Facebook page when he paid crucial NOT 15 decisions against the Sainters, officiating by any chance?

Exactly Baloo and Leon.

Think there were quite a few ocassions when Hampson deserve frees but the umpires are so inconsistent and cause it's us we don't get them.

Fast forward to Sunday and Goldstein gets a critical one to win the game for NM.

That last quarter especially if you go over the game they definitely uses that tactic to nullify Hampson!

Mummy is a classic mercenary. Would have gone anywhere for the dollars.
yeah, at the end of 2013 Mummy went from Geelong to Sydney. Hampson went from Carlton to Richmond.

We went the "moneyball" option to snare Hampy at $250k per annum, GWS went the "mercenary" option to snare Mummy at $600k(?)

Whatever. Was never going to leave Sydney area.

He want to leave Geelong early on and could have grabbed him then.
Sydney were one of they few clubs interested.

Didn't leave Geelong for the money
Wasn't get enough game time at Geelong.

Ended up being a smart move

Indeed, but its not hard to get 100% DE when you KICK it once and handball it 5 times to the guys standing next to you ( hence the metres gained only being 27metres)

27/7 = 3.85 metres for each possession.

It's a pretty demining stat by comparison. Are his handballs releasing guys into space or simply the first thing comes into his head?

Do they have averages for the year? Maybe he's not so glaringly bad :-\

After I wrote it I realised that if you take out his 1 kick distance of 20m his 5 handballs went an average 1.4mtrs distance each.

Gawn had 13 contested possssions and 6 clearances.
Mummy got 8 cp's and 5 clearances
Hampson got 3cp's and 0 clearances
His tap work has been good but he is very ordinary at every thing else.

... and neither Hampson nor our coaching staff was able to react.

I wasn't talking about CPs and Clearances, just HOTA. But thanks for the additional information

Its incredible isn't it. Hawthorn negating Hampy like that, I mean why cant they just give him some leeway and let him play....

And don't start me on the umpires conspiring with Hawthorn to beat us and Hampy. Another cunning ploy. :help

I'll just add that to the "Excuses why Hampy hasn't developed" file.

Injuries, passing of his father, having a baby, having to play second fiddle to Kruezer/Jacobs/Warnock/Maric, not getting a run of games, midfield that lets him down.

That's distance gained per disposal right? It's ok to handball backwards you know.

tigertim said:
Were they?

In your previous post you said the distance was "metres gained". If true, a handball sideways would equal 0 metres gained and one to a player behind would be negative right?

They're your stats Tim.
