Rucking Hell

Dear god. Hammer and Ivan together. Just proved once again how useless the HO stat is tonight. Get someone who can actually do something around the ground. Who gives a *smile* about hit outs, have no influence on the result at all.

Hammer & Maric didn't pick themselves whoever thought it was great idea to play these 2 should be shown the door

Really, really poor selection decision to play cymbals and ivy. Just plain dumb……...

Ruck stocks are screwed.

You have to be more than what both Hampson and Maric offer.

Today's ruckman is not either of them.

Soldo will never play Senior football. He is nothing more than an advertising gimic.

Our recruiting department disagrees.

We had 64 hit outs tonight to 24 and still got done by 6 goals.

Our two bonafide ruckmen against a kid in his second game and despite dominating in the stats, it counted for sweet F.A

its not rocket surgery
They were both poor to woeful in the twos today, and neither they nor Griff spent a minute in the ruck. Soldo did well, I thought, but when he had a spell number 80 came off the bench for some unknown reason. Heaven forfend one of our three ruck.forwards attend a ruck contest!

I'm with lamby that Griff/Ty/Beanie should be our ruck triumvirate, but if they insist on playing a 'proper ruckman', it should be Ivvy Jr.

Cymbals can't mark, kick or handball and Maric can't run and jump. Huge liability together…..both gone. Club needs to make courageous long term decisions. Replace with Griffiths and McBean as mobile rucks/forwards and give them both every opportunity before making a call on whether they stay or go at the end of this yr.

i know someone who is very close to Mcbeans house mate and the boy doesn't want to play in the ruck - coaching staff need to fix this. coaching is more than game plan and skills its man management as well and on this front hardwick has let us down

Yet his stated ambition is to be the next Dean Cox.

Hmmm, who do I believe? Mcbean's housemate's mate or Mcbean?. I go Mcbean.

Can we at least try Todd Elton as a ruckman? We have nothing to lose (apart from matches)

This is his bio on the wesbsite - 5 seasons, 2 games......surely we have to simply play him or he gets traded.

The athletic tall spent more time last season developing in the VFL team’s backline, as well as rotating through the ruck and attack.

He made one senior appearance last year, lining up on Collingwood star Travis Cloke in Round 7.

Has continued to develop physically in his five seasons at Richmond.

Draft history: 2011 AFL Draft 1st round selection (Richmond) No. 26 overall.

No more excuses, this was patently obvious 5 years ago. The list management of this club is on the nose and the people in charge need to be accountable.

And once again, I have been harping on about our ruck deficiency for nearly 12 months now so if that consitutes peering through poo coloured glasses then so be it. Just to remind you, Tyrone Vickery is coming back from injury and had an absolute dog of a season last year and may well repeat the dose. I don't want to wish him ill will, but the fact remains he's coming from a long way back and bad shoulders don't bode well for a wannabe ruckman. You get my drift?

Orren Stephenson may well pick up the slack but he's inexperienced, he's got a limited skill-set and will struggle to shoulder the load that Maric undertook last season.

Liam McBean isn't a ruckman fullstop, he's a tall utility who we are attemting to transform into a ruckman. He'll probably turn out to be a second ruck if all things go to plan but I wouldn't be earmarking him for Maric's role. You see where I'm coming from?

Griffiths and Elton have next to no ruck experience, they haven't even established themselves as AFL footballers let alone second rucks.

I still maintain that if Maric goes down, we're going to struggle big time, particularly if Vickery has another wretched season like he did last year. Big O will be competitive but he's no world beater and McBean is four years away from senior football.

As far as generational change is concerned, we'll still need to recruit replacements for Maric & Big O in the next 3 years, that's where Collingwood are pretty much set for the next decade. If Vickery struggles, you may as well make that 3, and to be honest, if we're banking on 3 ruckmen in free agency, we'll probably have to pay well over market rates.

As far as Richmond is concerned, if Maric goes down we have Vickery (coming back from shoulder surgery), Stephenson who is 32 and largely unproven and not much else. And for our generational change, so much is resting on McBean coming good which is far from certain given he's built like a rake and is primarily a utility player.

Thing with Maric is he has clearly had his best years at Punt Rd, so yes it was a great get, but he wasn't exactly even a B grader before he came to us

Hopefully the trade and draft periods will go some of the way to plugging the gaping holes in the team's ruck stocks.
Gotta get a selection or two absolutely right in this regard.
The ruckman s back and the Tigers simply don't have one that can compete at the elite level.

Mumford has signed on at GWS for 2 more years (not that were ever likely to get him)
