Round 21 - the fart from a 15 y.o. dog games.

So what and why is everyone pulling themselves over Jackson.
Every time I see him he is no better then an Coleman Jones or Griffens.
Their forward line is a disaster. If they don’t kick a goal off Fritsch or Pickett or some other ground based goal, then they don’t kick one at all.

They need Buddy !

2 things about tonight:

1. We are nowhere near either of these teams in a pressure game. No point making finals.

2. Collingwood are kissed on the *smile* bu the umps yet their supporters go nuts when they lose a free that was there. Try being Richmond you *smile*
on 1. with a full fit squad we're near. Nowhere near is ridiculous, as evidenced by the Geelong game, and last week.

It was a good game but not great.

Ok. So the win-loss column is irrelevant then ?

Wow. Simply wow.
Give it a rest Red. No one is suggesting this. We’re simply highlighting that a team’s ‘true’ performance as a bona fide ‘real deal’ team can (and has been proven to be in the past) be misleading due to the unsustainable nature of their results.

Don't laugh he would be better then that Bozzo the Clown, he is shocking.
Was that Gawn's worse game? He looked pissed

Yep. Finals pressure will say it all.

The late free against Petrecca was very stiff.

On Jackson, he is an outstanding prospect but it is true that he has regressed a little this year.

Sorry that is absolute rubbish. Common sense and mathematical application tells you that you can’t be lucky winning 11 in a row.

And even if you still think that, to actually still be in the game (close) all year long, time and time and time again, tells you that you are half decent and certainly not “lucky”.

Note: I hate them with a passion and the possibility they go out in straight sets is still real. But that’s not the point. They’re not lucky to be where they are.

People are just trying to cope with the reality that the magpies are the real deal

They really could go all the way.

The belief they have cannot be bottled.

Credit to Macrae and Leppa,

The magpies play like the tigers did at their best.

Irrepressible. Watch them interact with each other, this is real unfortunately.

They’ll finish top 2 and win at least one final. At least. You could mount an argument that Geelong and Melbourne (at their 2020 best) are better but Scumwood has all the other teams covered. The rest are ordinary. Plus they’ve beaten most of them already.
We will see. I’d love to play them in a final. No team has put them under finals heat that I have seen.

It’s not about the finals. They are NOT lucky to be in the finals or on top of the ladder.

Their finals performance is yet to be determined.
And that’s all that matters. (After getting there of course)

Yes. I agree. How you perform in finals is all that matters. But you simply can not say Bumwood are a lucky club at this stage to be playing in them or their pre finals position.

That is just simply ridiculous. They’ve won 11 in a row. That’s a bloody awesome effort as much as it grinds me.

What’s that saying “a win is a win” ?

And when you’ve had 11 of them in a row, sorry Kev. but nobody gives a f about winning margins. Especially when you’re coming from 17th the year before.

Surely it is possible to acknowledge that it's a great achievement and recognise that to win 11 in a row with the majority under 12 points, with a % that has them 9th surely suggests that a dollop of luck has been involved? It's not as binary as you seem think it is.

Luck is involved in winning lots of close games. You also have to be a competent football team to have a chance to be lucky. Both things can be true.

When Essendon squeaked into the 8 with a crap percentage and lots of close wins we saw what happened - and we saw the next year too with less close wins and a harder draw.

Maybe Collingwood will buck the trend but percentage tells you what most likely will happen. We will see.

W\L almost completely shapes the public narrative about teams. If Robinson had kicked straight then likely we would have seen that in full throttle right here. Instead of we did it for shedda on the comeback it would have been why didn’t we do it for shedda in the first half. And the obligatory why was shedda playing posts.

When was the last time anyone looked at % after the finals was played or after a premiership was won and done ?

Hint: never.

I agree with all of that, but I don't see the fact that they have had a bit of luck along the way as being mutually exclusive or contradictory, its just part of the puzzle.

That aside, in an unintended way, at this moment in time they have mastered the art of the 666, come from behind. Works really well if the other side wears themselves out dominating possession for little reward, like tonight, but that hasn't been the case in all their wins. How many of the 11 have been come from behind? They couldn't all be surely. North, Melb, Ess, Carlton, Suns come to mind?
