Round 21 - the fart from a 15 y.o. dog games.

It’s not about the finals. They are NOT lucky to be in the finals or on top of the ladder.

Their finals performance is yet to be determined.
Never said they were. Kudos to them for fighting out to these wins. Just saying, as others have (just heard Dal Santo also not convinced on Fox Footy) they are not a convincing finals or premiership team with those wins. Out of 15 wins, only 2 against Dees (premier), 1 against hot Freo and 1 against Bloose with those 3 teams in top 8. The other 11 against bottom 8 sides where only 2 were more convincing margins.

This was on the cards by the way,

Buckley is the greatest premiership avoider in history, its like a curse

He goes to the bears, he leaves, they win three flags.

The pies win a flag, he goes to Collingwood and they remain without a flag,
until he retires, as soon as he retires they win a flag.

He inherits the premiership team at the pies as the coach shafting Malthouse, he coaches them for 10 years, flagless.

He gets sacked as coach, soon after they look the goods.

I think its almost 500 games as coach and player without a flag.

Again, finals in finals. Not my point.

Right now they deserve to be where they are. As much as it pains me, they’ve earnt it.

Any chance he could get a last minute gig at the cats then?

I agree with all of that, but I don't see the fact that they have had a bit of luck along the way as being mutually exclusive or contradictory, its just part of the puzzle.

That aside, in an unintended way, at this moment in time they have mastered the art of the 666, come from behind. Works really well if the other side wears themselves out dominating possession for little reward, like tonight, but that hasn't been the case in all their wins. How many of the 11 have been come from behind? They couldn't all be surely. North, Melb, Ess, Carlton, Suns come to mind?

not sure.

What I am sure of though is that Leppa and Macrae would be telling them to believe that they have something very special and they do.

Don't underestimate those two blokes, absolute gun 1-2 punch, who could not have better records of re-inforcing a culture of success.

They have seen it all.

I mean there is not one genuine star in the team, which may be the thing that stops them in the end.

I've always believed that without Dustin Martin we win nothing zilch, this finals series will be an interesting case study on the strength of our incredible system. which is pretty much their system.

I could give the Pies credit, but all they did was beat a side who have won 4 of their last 10 games.

Yep. To anyone with a bit of industry and Richmond intel, those two were always going to be formidable. Having seen them both in action, they dovetail real well. They’re quite different but sort of compliment one another.

They have a few stars. Elliot, De Goey, Pendlebury, Moore. Not on Dusty's level of course but who is?

Johnson is an interesting player. Looks like he could do a Marlion Pickett. Well not a full debut-in-a-GF-win-and-poll-in-the-norm-smith Marlion Pickett, but you know what I mean.

Dal Santo pfffffftttt. He is an absolute peanut. This is the same bloke who smugly predicted in 2017 that we would go out in straight sets.

If he thinks Scumwood are no chance I’m jumping on the TAB app right now.

When was the last time anyone looked at % after the finals was played or after a premiership was won and done ?

Hint: never.

Oh sorry, didn't realise they had won the flag already. You seem lost Redders, Victoria Park End is that way.

There's so much 2017 RFC about it. The connection and trust.

I just can't believe a team with 106% can be 2nd on the ladder this late in the season. Their program must be very good efficiency and finishing is top notch. We could do with a little of that. Luck has a bit to do with it but I reckon they work very hard on it too.

People are just trying to cope with the reality that the magpies are the real deal

They really could go all the way.

The belief they have cannot be bottled.

Credit to Macrae and Leppa,

The magpies play like the tigers did at their best.

Irrepressible. Watch them interact with each other, this is real unfortunately.
Totally agree.

I am coping with it via a combination of various single malt whiskeys, and the understanding that other flags don’t matter as much as the glorious Tiger flags.

The way in which the Tiges delivered their 2017 flag through a scintillating style of play that brought pressure and a surge mentality to unprecedented levels, in combination with a barn storming imperious Dusty that reeked havoc on opposition players meant that we witnessed something that would be spoken about for generations to come.

A style of play that forced one opposition coach to question whether we wanted to watch the game played the way the Tiges played it, because he has NFI idea of how to stop it.

This continued for over four years, and even lead to corporate flunkies having to change the rules of the game to arrest the Tiger juggernaut. (More than once).

The 2019 demolition of the AFL’s Frankenstein test tube baby; the Pickett story and his magical blind turn that would have made Michael Jordan proud.

The 2020 win after the media hyenas came after the cub for hub indiscretions.

The building of the team during a period of state sanctioned handicapping through millions of draft pics aimed at streamlining plastic worthless premierships for teams with no supporters.

The Tiger story is the best story of the modern AFL era, regardless of who won the premiership last year or will win this one.

Hands down.

My point is that it’s complete PRE cheer squad posting to suggest that they’re lucky to be where they are right now. You don’t win 11 in a row being a lucky club. That’s simply absurd.
