Not Hocking’s fault really. Everyone is rusty and not in match condition. First game or two will be like this. Still, rather a draw than a loss and we did do well to come back after that start.

This and we gifted them all of their goals by being lazy and giving away some dumb frees.
We were the clearly better team for 2.5 quarters. The difference was that they capitalised on their dominance in the first quarter but we absolutely butchered the ball in our forward line when we dominated the second half.
On reflection we should have won but at quarter time we looked like we were gonna lose by 10 goals. So all in all a reasonable result albeit disappointing not to win.
Plus we had many, many players that I can’t recall playing a worse game. Stack, Rioli, Lambert, Prestia, Graham, Riewoldt were just about non existent. Dusty butchered it all night.
With all that in mind not a bad result. Bin that game, brush of the rust and destroy Hawthorn next week.

Thats could be the style with shorter games try and get out to a lead by half time then hope the oppo doesnt have the legs to run you down in the last.
First half will be offensive footy second halves or last quarters will be defensive flooding by those with the lead.
Especially whilst players are not match conditioned and lacking the legs to run out games strongly, over the next couple of weeks at least.
It will settle in a few weeks after the players get their match fitness up.
