Round 14 - Other Games

to be fair, he executed pretty well under immense pressure last night?

I think he's matured as a footballer, which often happens
Yeah he’s a magnificent set shot for goal. Probably the best in the league. But finals are like kryptonite to him.

That was an infuriatingly good win by Geelong. They found a way to score goals despite the run of play. Furthermore, they looked absolutely out on their feet in the last 10 minutes, while the Dogs found another gear. I had Geelong in my top 4 this year but the thing that will ultimately get them is fitness. They were great in the contest all night but struggled on the spread late.

Interesting and agree - this will be their problem come finals - when the pace and pressure of the game goes up a notch or two the valid question will be whether they can keep up for the whole game. The last two years they showed how good they are for a half and that’s dam good but the tigers lifted and they failed to keep up.

The trouble for Geelong is also now more teams that can go further into games - Brisbane will be stronger mentally and physically, same with the doggies, we don’t know about the dees yet under finals pressure. I don‘t think the cats are suspect mentally, they are strong in this regard, but physically I would be worried if I were them

The other issue for the cats to worry about is that they always play a great first half season, look strong and unbeatable at times but then lose their edge in the back half of the season. A few soft tissue injuries won’t help them if that happens.

Tell ya one thing for nothing ( coming from a cats supporter) Danger, needs to STOP trying to emulate Dusty,

I feel he is still suffering from the affects of his early season injury maybe? If Duncan is out injured the cats will need more from Danger but I wouldn’t write him off just yet.

Right now Cats are clear flag favourites IMO. They are looking very strong and Cameron and Smith have been outstanding additions. No surprise about Cameron but I didn’t think Smith would make such a difference.

But the biggest surprise for me is the lack of drop off in their older players. I really thought they’d struggle with the game going back to full length and them being another year older. But they all appear in better form than last year.

Premierships aren’t won in June but gee they look good. I’m still spewing about blowing that game last week. I think we are the only team that can stop Geelong but we have most likely blown a top 4 chance and it’s going to be much harder to win it from outside top 4; especially if we have to play an interstate final. We really need to ramp up our form starting next week and get moving. A Richmond team at its best is probably the only thing stopping a Cats flag.
Yep. They strengthened their attack with Cameron, Smith and Rohan while we continue to struggle with Castagna and Rioli. This is why I want CCJ in with Tom and Jack, and why I'm very hopeful Parker can add some spark.

Gold Coast have butchered the ball inside 50, tried to pass off on 2 x gettable set shots and turned it over. Scoreboard could be even.

I wish there would be some sort of uniform ground size with AFL football. That ground of theirs is unlike others and IMO gives them an advantage. Hard to play on a ground with tiny pockets and wings when you’re not used to it.
The ground is a dump. The ball spends more time over the fence than on the playing surface!

so basically some teams get to play GC twice which is 8 points. There are at least three big things (apart from the MRP) wrong with AFL and Mr Geelong Hocking won't address them. Umpiring Standards, Uneven Fixture and Goal Review Technology.

Dogwood getting some scrutiny for some dog acts during the game last night. But not much uproar in the media like Lynch got last year. Typical bias as usual!

Stuart Dew is pretty fat, not such a great example for the team ... Rutten the same ...
and they both coach lethargic teams ..

Its not so much about the old players "dropping off' IMHO, its that the level/standard of the AFL has dropped, so many "kids" out there who are athletes, BUT cant play football ( generalisation)

any word on Duncans knee catman?

superb kick by Rohan last night. He has become the footballer he always threatened to be.

probably the best 3rd forward in the comp right now?

I expect to meet cats in another Prelim this year.

And I expect Chris's bother and Shocking to have it played on that soccer pitch you bloke call home
Maybe a PCL they reckon. Rohan is much more at home with Cameron taking the focus off him. He ( Rohan) is fast, a decent mark, and ( generally) a very good kick. Re the "cattery" its been that shape for years, IF all grounds were identical i would understand the complaints more. Other side is they are blokes ( professionals) on $300,000, and surely they SHOULD be ablt to adjust?
