Round 10 Other Games

Still reckon it is great Butler is going so well. Helps lift the value of all our seconds players for future trades

agree

Dan is the man now at St Kilda. He was under pressure to hold his place at Tigerland.
As someone pointed out on Twitter it was Bolton who forced him out of the forward line initially. Stack too was showing truckloads at the time & may still be better long term.
Butler was a good player IMO but just got forced out. I don't blame him for looking elsewhere for opportunity.
The mistake is probably what we asked for in return. The Saints got an absolute bargain. Well played to them.

Its a classic case of a player who lost form at one club and couldn’t get a game and when given a second chance at another club has taken it.

He was good with us - a premiership player - but we move on. If Bolton and Stack have taken his place then I think overall we are in a better place now with Bolton and much better later on when Stack develops a bit more.

I am glad he is doing well and I like the tiger strategy of looking after their players (ala Essendon, blues, cats for comparison) - it’s is clearly not affecting our depth.

I might change my mind if Butler kicks the deciding goal that sends us packing in a finals - but then that’s life.

Anyone know Dan's stats in last year's VFL finals? I dare say probably a good indication of what he was worth at the time.

I just can’t believe someone got cut up by metal studs. The AFL article makes it sound like another pies player had bruising around the knee from them too though I didn’t se the game. Wtf??? Surely there’s no excuse. Should be treated like a punch in the head by the mro.

I don't think they were metal studs. Just sharp plastic. First incident like this for eons so the AFL will over react and ban something.

I'm not sure why there is such a push back against metal studs. They are used all the time in soccer.

Irony, is that long plastic moulded studs (blades) were banned by several british clubs in the early 2000's when they caused significant injuries, much like what Quaynor experienced.

This is an article on it.

23-11 again.
How does it happen? Hard to fathom.
Not really hard to work out. Happens week in week out. Maybe something to do with the AFL wanting them to succeed.

Happens too often to be anything but a collusion.

Every footy league I have been involved in has been bent. Don't see any reason to expect the AFL to be any different.

There's a lot of boots now that seem to have aluminium type studs in them. Fair to say there's a lot of club's sourcing replacement stops today and some very sore wrists!

Do the aluminium ones sharpen up a lot more on hard grounds than the old steel ones used to?

I know the plastic blade types (as I referenced above) have sharpened on hard grounds so wondering is thats the case here but with the aluminium ones?

What happened to umps going into the rooms and running the hand under all the boots?

It's not like traditional steel studs as I understand, they're plastic covered. The reason umps used to run a hand under boots was to ensure no dangerous rough edges on the stud, usually due to wear and tear. They were called screw-ins.

I've lost track of days in lockdown, but seeing Taylor, Mcavaney, Carey and Holmes has drastically reduced my interest in this match
