Round 1 - Changes vs Carlton

I agree with to a point. If they show absolutely nothing and are totally ineffective you still need to earn the spot to keep, but I”d keep Dow in for Thursday even if probably doesn’t deserve it this time.
His pre season has been flawless.
He will learn more off of Cripps and Rowell than a plodder in the VFL.
Cotch etc were granted this luxury.

There is only 4 years age difference between them. Plus we have Hopper on a 7 year deal; not great but it's done and it can't be undone right now.

They are light years apart as footballers. Hopper maybe B grade but Dow is an F. Plus Hopper was miles and miles ahead of Dow at same stage of career. Regular finals player. I'm picking him every week over Dow.
Hopper is 27 and Dow is 22?

That's like saying Bolton and Prestia are in the same age bracket.

They were drafted 4 years apart; 2015 and 2019. Have a look at what Hopper was doing in his 4th year and then compare what Dow has done.

Chalk and cheese.

What is a flawless pre season? Doesn't mean *smile* if you can't get the pill. Or kick it on the very few occasions you do get it. He's in his 5th season and shown virtually no signs of being AFL standard the whole time he's been on the list.

No.
Keep playing him.
What's the alternative?

I feel like we're talking across each other here.

I'm not suggesting Dow is better, or will be better than Hopper.

I'm suggesting that Dow has possible upside, though it's looking pretty unlikely, and that our Midfield with Hopper in is a known quantity. If Hopper was 22, I wouldn't be.

If Lynch, Dusty and Nanks are fit then they must play. I agree with many others that Ross should start. I would also be tempted to replace Young with Miller as he has a bit of height and bulk advantage over Young so maybe he takes Mckay provided we give him an angry pill before the match. The outs have to be amongst Ryan, Dow, Banks and Kosi who showed next to nothing .
If all else fails get some more kids in who are knocking at the door.

Does MC have the guts to pick Miller?
He couldn't be worse then Young.
I've seen VAFL.players 10 times better.
Where has he popped out from.
Why is he automatically selected.
King destroyed him and then he just gave up.
Shocking by foot and destroyed any chance in the last qtr when he kicked it straight to Ballard

Yeah.

Dow was worse than Hopper today.

No doubt.

But Dow is trying to step up to AFL and maybe, speculatively, has something. Probably not, but let's just double check.

I know what you get from Hopper. It's not good enough. He tried. But that is the midfield performance we will get with Taranto and Hopper in the middle.

We've seen it before.

We will keep seeing it.

I don't know why would keep persisting?
I've triple checked. Out: Dow

Changes will firstly depend on how players recover from today. It was warm.

For me & seeing this rubbish first hand:

Out: Ryan (only to be played again if we have massive injuries to talls); Banks, Dow (it’s over), Koschitzke & Grimes.
In: Nank, Judson Clarke, Martin, McCauliffe, Lynch.

Ross into starting 18 & Pickett or McIntosh the Sub. If we want more run, drop Naismith too & put in Tresize.

I've got a feeling CoburgTiger you were pissed when U wrote all of this. :ROFLMAO: Dow couldn't even tie Hoppers shoelaces. Please don't compare the two. R U a relo of Dow? And I don't mean to be disrespectable.

It is basically do or die game. Lose and stats say at 0 - 2 finals are almost over. Especially with first season coach and ageing list. Best 22 must be picked.

Don't worry about finals. Our list is not good enough. We need to take our medicine and rebuild through the draft. We need access to the top end of the draft and high quality kids. We don't have anywhere near enough on our list now.
